Re: Small Norwegian drinking cup - help please
Thanks for your help again Qrt.S. My reason for thinking the cup may be Norwegian is that the inscription engraved around the rim is in Norwegian (or maybe Danish) language and refers to, as you say, the district of Romsdal. The inscription is dated 1818 don't think it is possible for Hans Sverinsen...

Small Norwegian drinking cup - help please
Hi again! This is a heavy quality small cup which I think is Norwegian. Gilding around the rim. Makers mark only to the base. HD. The only other clue is in the engraved inscription which refers to the town of Romsdal and date 1818. Any more information much appreciated!! Joho https://i.postimg.cc/Cn...

Re: Scots Fiddle pattern? Makers?
.Brilliant! I think you may have solved this one, Phil.
The Scottish museum site does In fact have an image of the mark of Dalziel and Hunter and it is very similar to the mark on my spoon. Thank you - much appreciated!!

Re: Scots Fiddle pattern? Makers?
Thanks Fishless. Yes, I think there maybe a couple of contenders for the WC Mark, But the H&D mark may be more difficult to crack. Hopefully, as you say, more information may come from others in the forum.
Thanks again.
John

Scots Fiddle pattern? Makers?
Hi All, I have two teaspoons which I think are Scottish - but am I correct? They both have what appear to be Scots fiddle pattern handles and just a makers mark, one WC and the other D&H. The D&H spoon has a drop where the bowl and stem meet. The WC spoon has no drop. I guess they date to ar...

Chinese marks - help please!
Hi, Can anyone help identify the marks on this item. I think they are Chinese. I am not sure what the item is. It could be a child's bangle but unlikely as it is so small. Re: Continental silver chamber stick
Thanks for the Napoli reference Amena. I've had a quick look. As you say, there are many chamber sticks from that period and I will need to spend more time tonight looking at them. It would be very nice if it was confirmed as from Napoli - here's hoping! Thanks also Legrandmogol for your opinions. J...

Continental silver chamber stick
Hi Its a long shot, but can anyone identify the place and maker of this candle holder. I am presuming it is Continental and I think it dates circa 1700 - 1750. What I think is the makers mark is NA and there are remnants of second mark. There is also an assay scrape. The marks are on the handle. The...

Gerald Benney and Alan Kelsey
Hi. I have a silver butter knife London 1990 that has the makers marks of both Gerald Benney (AGB) and Geoffrey Kelsey (GAK). Would be grateful for any information on the relationship between Benney and Kelsey and why both their marks appear on the knife. Many thanks. John https://i.postimg.cc/N9mTN...

Help to identify place and maker of small dish. Nurnberg?
Hi. Looking for help to identify this small cast openwork dish. It is just 9cm long, 7cm wide and 4cm high. Heavy gauge silver. It is marked with: 1: N in a circular or oval punch. 2: IR in a circular punch 3: A mark which I think is an Austria Hungarian Import mark for 1872 - 1901. Strangley this s...

Hi All. I am trying to find out more about this unusual tiny silver patch box. It is circular in form and has faceted sides and a pull of cover. Attached to the cover, on a small spindle is a circular plaque with a hole drilled near the edge. The plaque can be turned so that it alignes with a hole i...

Re: Brazilian or Spanish Colonial
Hi Aguest
Interesting view on the possibility of it being a watch chain holder. I am not sure.......
Yes, the 'handles' are made from one piece of silver, folded over.

Re: Brazilian or Spanish Colonial
Hi Cheryl You are correct, there is no thumb orientation which might have suggested a 'figa'. I have no real reason to think it may have a religious connection - just that I believe that much of the early silver produced in Brazil was Church rather than secular and I could sort of imagine a priest h...
