Purpose of this item?
Hello all, I wonder if anyone can say exactly what this is for? It would appear to be a mount for something but what? there is no small lip on the base to house a glass liner etc. Very much hunting themed with super detailing. Hallmarked from London in 1885, the sponsors mark is Frederick Brasted. M...

Re: Help to Identify Tongs
Hi Martin,
I have had it confirmed they are called Candle Douters (scissor candle extinguishers)
You were pretty much spot on.
Regards,
Colin

Re: Help with an 18th Century Dutch Marrow Scoop
Thanks for your information.
A bit lost on the RH under a fish, the example you showed does not have that nor does this marrow scoop. A bit lost on that part?

Thanks Peter.
So just a miniature, I was thinking it maybe had a purpose but it is just merely decorative.

Help with 833 Silver Vesta Box
Hi all, I wonder if anyone can assist with this novelty box which I would say may well be a table vesta box in the form of an Alpine house (Swiss, Austrian) That is not to say it was made in those countries, it is marked to the front bottom edge with either JBC or JBO and 833. Can anyone assist with...
