Re: Silver gilt cloisonné and en plein enamel box?

Hi all - after some comments the object was upgraded from fake to authentic...... With regret I must say that the knowledge about fakes is very low on this forum of "experts"- It's probably because that most neither original objects nor fakes have ever had in their hands to compare and the...

Re: Unknown maker's mark

Hi Dad - you know that i am a collector since more than 25 years and I own a lot of Russian silver - but I also have inspected (holding it in my hands and looking from all sides etc.) a lot of Russian silver in museums, auction houses, from othe collectors etc. What irritates me the most is that a c...

Re: Unknown maker's mark

Hi Dad -
I appreciate your expertise very much - but are you sure that all this brandnew objects are over 100 years old? Why nobody ever heared or have seen much from this maker? What is your source this exemplares come from?

Hi all - since some years I have this Mosin Nagant M1891 rifle model in silver, belonging to 2 Fabergé soldier porcelain figurines. If someone have the figurines let me know..... Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi oel - after we finally arrived under the waistline - the fakers use urine (one week soaking is the normal length of stay) to get the patina - something what the ancestors or the former silversmiths have known as well - so much to the time problem - but there was no demand (not jet...). Anyways - ...

Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi oel - first of all thank you very much for your well-intentioned statement for the word "patina"- I really do not want to start a fight over the definition of oxydation, pollution, tarnish or patina! I just be amused about the in my eyes meaningless word "patina" in connection...

Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi oel -
with all respect - I really do not know how a from the international silver experts accepted (for example) silver spoon with patina looks like. Maybe a meaningful photo could help.

Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi - The centuries-old fascination of silver assuredly exists because of the splendor, luster and elegance of a skillful design / pattern. Dull and from daily use misstreated and uncared silver with traces of "battel scars"and mottled or stained surface is ugly - but corresponds to the Ang...

Re: Russian Judaica type item

Hi enjoy123 - if you are interested in Judaica: the only authentic objects now on the marked are the Sabbath candle sticks from Warszaw (mostly!) under Russian rule: Some examples: Pogorzelski http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd334/Postnicov/Pogorzelski-1.jpg Radke http://i529.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi ElicottCity - Patina (ital. Patina "thin layer", "varnish") is a by natural or artificial aging caused surface (texture and color) on wood, leather, bronce etc. but NOT on silver! Silver oxidized (environmental influences), is stained and should be polished! IDo you want black...

Re: Silver gilt cloisonné and en plein enamel box?

Hi - there is one little exeption, which have nothing to do with fakes - in my collection I have several exemplares (cigarette cases) where the donation textes, names of female friends (lovers?), lewd applikations etc., have been removed or sanded at a later time for personal reasons -but the nice o...

Re: Spoon Two of Two

Hi ElicottCity -

the same maker BA as the other. Note: enamel was mostly made in Moscw, only very seldom in St. Petersburg by some wellknown firms. Enamel with marks from St. Petersbrg is always a bit dubious - you have to check careful and meticulous from whom it is.

Re: Spoon One of Two

Hi EllicottCity - the good news first: the spoon is authentic, made by wellknown maker Agafonov, Wasilij Semenov (1895-1917). You have to turn the spoon, often Kokoschnik and maker are opposite struck (upside down). Here on the forum by some disbelieved - but facts are facts! http://i529.photobucket...

Re: Silver gilt cloisonné and en plein enamel box?

Hi ElicottCity - the other shown marks are Soviet marks from the years 1927-1946 for Moscow. Turn them 180 degrees and you can read them The silver content is 875/1000. the same as 84 Zolotniki. Someone let his object rehallmarking with the at that time current marks - in wide use in that years, to ...

Re: Russian Judaica type item

Hi enjoy123 - Your guess that the shown object is a total forgery, is correct. The stamps used suggest a production in Warsaw under Russian rule - but are without a true model - they are pure fantasy. Judaica offered on online sites and/or from auction houses are always fakes. Authentic Judaica are ...

Hi Trev - I understand your argument very good - but did we know something abot how this things get handeled? Who made the crystal? Russian firm?
