My favorite subject discussed at length ! I have been wanting to learn to engrave for years but not looked into it seriously for lack of time. Now I may just have to find the tools suggested here and the book and learn. I had intended to practise if I ever found the proper tools on scrap silverware ...

I've been using Orvus Paste (from farm and tractor supply stores) on my good woolens and cashmeres for several years now. I was told about it by friends who are weavers that it is so much better on our woolens than those specific detergents for fine woolens which can actually damage the fibers . Goo...

The sulpher in the rubber bands reacts with the silver causing stains and even scars if left on for a long time. Not good to wrap plastic food wrap around silver either for similar results occur. Not sure if sulpher is the culprit with the plastic wrap, but I have seen the scarring left by wrapping ...

I just had very good luck using boiling water and Tide Liquid laundry detergent to remove a lacquer coating on an antique sterling picture frame. The silver part of the frame was fully removable from the backing so I could submerge the entire pc of silver in the boiling water, to cover, with a coupl...
