Re: Interesting find

It is great to see authentic Klingert because there is a lot of replica Klingert out there and this thread will educate many people Right, and take closer look at imperfections in cloisonné (enamel not evenly contained within cells, different thickness of opaque enamel and notorious problem with tr...

Re: Interesting find

Well stories are stories. The letter is written with imagination during a period when hardly anybody knew what was going on in the USSR even less about Russian silver. There is absolutely nothing indicating that the spoons have anything to do with the Russian court. The text in the box's lid is onl...

Re: Interesting find

(In 1941 it was much better to run antique shop in Jerusalem than in Berlin). (Interestingly, the buyer had to be the member of British forces because The AIF officially ceased to exist on 1 April 1921. Or he visited Palestine when retired and used his rank). No you are incorrect about the AIF, if y...

Interesting find

These spoons have been in the same family for about 70 years, I do love the embellishments from the Antique seller particularly the comment about been “blessed by the Pope” Even 70 years ago stories were made up to sell. https://i.ibb.co/7GKL1Rf/box.jpg https://i.ibb.co/dppRD7s/spoon.jpg https://i.i...

Re: Russian Marks on Box?

In my opinion these are not Russian Hallmarks, if it was a Russian from the period of 1911 it would not have the 1911 date, it would have a kokoshnik mark, I have never seen the date 1911 on Russian Silver, also the subject matter and enamel work does not look like a Russian piece at all

Re: Julius Rappoport Toad - fake or genuine

Hi, 1.Overall poor quality and craftsmanship 2.Letter P in initials is not well rounded Cyrillic letter P but rather flat. Chinese fakers rely on visual similarity and disregard subtle differences and their Cyrillic letters are often deformed. 3.Eyes in genuine Rappaport animals always have the bez...

Re: Julius Rappoport Toad - fake or genuine

There is a silent agreement here not to discuss why a fake is a fake. You see it fakers read these sites too. Why teach them to make better fakes? ` I understand the reluctance to detail how to detect a fake, the issue is for me and probably other real collectors that we do want know, apart from jo...

Was it ``a great find in thrift shop or garage sale`` ? Sorry.

Apart from the lack of quality that gives away what other pointers gives it away as a fake?

Assay Mark

Hi All, I have a question regarding Assay Masters, I have a serving spoon with an Assay Mark from Kliment Zabaryevsky from Vilnuis, silver master гс. According to my books, which may be incomplete, there is no maker with this hallmark from Vilnuis. Is it possible that assay masters assayed items fro...

Faberge egg

I have just seen this offered for sale on e-bay, I'm not the seller nor am I in the market to buy it. I hope this is not against the posting rules, but I would be interested in finding out if this item is real or a fake, looking at the hall mark it looks wrong to me.
