Unfortunately I still haven't made any progress with my tabatiere.

Re: Russian Candlestick

Hi

Thanks for your Thoughts. As I will keep this candle stand in my hands, it's not too important what it is made from and where it comes from. I thought it would be interesting to know a little more about it, but I like the item anyway...

Re: Russian Candlestick

Why do you think it is Russian or even silver? Is it a mouth to mouth legend from generation to generation or? Yes, it's from my Grandmother and she always talked about the "Russian Candle Stick". So I never doubt that. And as far as I can evaluate, it is silver. And I think I recognize t...

Russian Candlestick

Hello Together From my family I got an old Candlestick and I would like to know some more about it. The only thing I know is, that it should be Russian. And the only mark I can find on it are these A S letters on the bottom, shown on the photo. The candlestick is about 42 cm tall and made of silver....

Re: French Tabatiere

Hi Jo, If there was sufficient space available between the maker's and Paris marks, then this would be a convenient place to strike the Italian mark. Trev. Yes, that could be. Symbol also might be a bird in flight or a sheaf of wheat or a leaf or, or, or? ...or a fish. Yes I think I'll be happy wit...

Re: French Tabatiere

Yes, indeed the mark is too worn to identify it easily. Can't identify those letters beside this long winding thing and so it's hard to say where is upside or down. I watched all the images under "French Maker's Marks", but couldn't find any resemblance. Is there any other list where I can...

Re: French Tabatiere

As @dognose says, we’d need to see a clear picture of the maker’s mark in the lozenge-shaped reserve, or at the very least your take on what the initials are. This will tell you who made your tabatière. Are both halves of the box marked? Objects can be imported to another country any time after man...

Re: French Tabatiere

Hi, To help those who may have information about your marks, can you tell us what letters you see in the first mark below? http://www.925-1000.com/td/f/Unknown/Unknown-42.jpg Trev. I have no idea what letter or sign the first mark could depict. Until now I only recognized the horse head with the &q...

I just read that the Chinese letter on the cup marks the silversmith who made this work for Wang Hing. How can I get some infos about that?

The Writing on the Cup "Bowls 300 J. P. (?) Wingate Amoy April 1899"
So the cup was given to a winner of a Bowls Event, right?

Re: Silver Cup

Thanks Trev

That's great! So the cup is really something special. And we where not quite sure if it's nickel silver... I think I should find someone who cleans it professionally and repair the stem, that's loose on one place.

Thanks,
