Re: William Chawner II, William Chinnery Or William Collins??
Very useful - it certainly lends weight to the idea that your W·C is William Chawner. Not quite the "smoking gun" but definitely worth noting. I don't know how big Chinnery's and Collins's workshops were but I think it very likely that, whatever their size, they employed journeymen so I d...

Re: William Chawner II, William Chinnery Or William Collins??
Both Collins and Chinnery registered W·C marks, Chinnery in 1825 and Collins in 1828. However they both registered as plate workers; whilst this does not prevent them from making flatware it does cast a little doubt. Chawner's marks did not include one with a pellet but he was registered as a spoon...

William Chawner II, William Chinnery Or William Collins??
I have two sets of six stunning quality Georgian 1833 Fiddle, Thread & Shell forks and spoons/serving spoons. They are screaming Chawner II at me, but the dot seems to be in the wrong place. They appear more as a W•C Rather than WC/W.C. They were purchased in a lot from a house clearance with A ...

Any makers information on Russian silver topped claret jug makers mark G.K combined Moscow Mark
Hello, I have stumbled on this stunning claret jug with a Russian silver top. The makers look like G.K with the combined standard and city mark to the external lid/collar. Internally there are two more punches, which appear the be the St George slaying mark and again G.K . Does anyone know who this ...

Thank you both so much for your assistance. Unfortunately, I was not notified about your responses as I usually am. There is a mark next to the assay office/date stamp on the collar, but I honestly cannot make anything out. Thank you again in your assistance and sorry for my delay in responding. Lucy

Trying to identify worn Russian Silver Makers on Enamelled Fork possibly AF, Riga??
Hi all, I have a beautiful enamelled Russian silver fork. About 11cm (4.1/4”) long. I think it’s AP in Latin or AF in cryllic, with Riga assay, but as you can see it’s very worn. Possible date of 1865? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you https://i.ibb.co/QKDrdm7/B2-BD2-E83-A9-B4-42-C4-9330...

Unidentified Tea Strainer
I have come across this tea strainer, which has the most unusual marks. There are no 925/other grade marks or country marks that I can make out. I’m completely stumped. Any help would be seriously appreciated. The piece does acid test as silver. Many thanks in advance for your help. https://i.postim...

Re: 925 Ring Possibly French Ste cross A
Hi, Not French, not British either. Ste could stand for sterling fineness (925), maker`s initials RJ. That's all I can tell. Unless the same mark emerges on silver positively identified, I doubt the mystery can be solved. Regards Thank you so much AG2012 for your response. Very interesting, after a...

925 Ring Possibly French Ste cross A
Hi, I'm new to this so I hope I'm doing this correct. I have a ring with a mark that is driving me bonkers. It has Ste (which I believe makes it French as Ste is short for Saint), there is what appears to be a cross with dots followed be an A. On the other side of the inner band is RJ8. Any help wou...
