Fu, Lu, Shou silver pins

Post by questingmoose »

Please identify the maker and country of origin of these two pieces of jewelry. I believe one to be a pin and the other to be half of a sash closure. The other half of the closure has been lost. I believe the pins to be abstractions of Lu and Shou, the Chinese characters for Prosperity and Longevity. If I am correct, the missing character is Happiness (Fu).

The only mark I can find is an x located at the center, top of reverse side of the sash closure.

Thank you.

Yes, it looks like there would have been a third piece to complete the Fu, Lu, Shou set, and it would have been Lu ( 禄 "prosperity"). Your photo shows Shou on the left and Fu on the right. For those readers whose computers cannot reproduce Chinese characters, Wikipedia has a good article that shows the three.

I cannot see the "X' mark you mention, could you please post a close-up photo of it?

Regards
