Help with a Brooch?

Post by tweetyobx »

Hi I have a brooch here that I could use a bit of help with. After extensive research including this site, I am 99% certain it is a Meyle & Mayer piece. The back is slightly tarnished but after some gentle polishing, you can just make out the dragonfly. In fact I thought it was a butterfly at first until I realized it had 4 wings not two. I tried to take a pic of the back but my camera is not that great & the mark is impossible to see in the picture. But after staring at in a strong light for a few minutes, I can tell you it looks exactly like the few pics I've found of M & M marks. I'm not sure how to post pics here so I attached Photobucket links at the bottom including my best drawing ( I am not an artist lol)of the mark. The only problem I have towards being absolutely certain is that of all the M & M brooches that I've seen, this one is different. M & M seems to mainly produce Art Noveau enamel work. This is a crystal ( or maybe paste?)cluster. There are 2 circular rows of small crystals with a large octagonal crystal in the center. So my question is; Has anyone seen a piece like this before? Is it a M & M? Or even possibly a Bek? Any help any one could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Sorry, the piece is neither Bek nor Meyle & Mayer. Those makers did not deal in costume jewelry of that type. In addition, the rhinestones used are treated with an "Aurora Borealis" finish that was not manufactured until 1955, long after Bek and Meyle & Mayer had ceased operations. I do not recognize the mark; you might be able to do additional research on the websites that deal specifically with costume jewelry, such as Morning Glory Jewelry. Good luck!
