I was able to identify the hallmarks on the back of this large 15" x20" salver using the 925/1000 English Hallmarks site. Under the hallmarks, I can see very faint engraved letters and numbers, which I tried to reproduce for the forum in a drawing. The underside center of the salver shows slight impressions that appear to be from an old coat of arms. There is a tiny circle or 3-leaf clover-shaped mark in the center back of the tray.
The front applied edge of the salver has two hallmarks, a rampant lion and a king's head. There is an engraved crest on the rim. In researching the crest, I read that the eagle with maltese (?) cross could be a masonic, political, or religious symbol.
I realize that this is a repurposed piece, but I would still love to know more about it. Any additional information that the forum members can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
