Thank you. Hiding in plain sight the whole time. Explains the price realized at recent auction and the stylistic elements of French influence.

Louis Gabriel Couvertié

Born: 7 Oct 1778, St. Marc, San Domingue (now Haiti), son of Jean Couvertié (1738-1811) and Marie Ann Brandy
Married, ca. 1799, probably San Domingue, to Marguerite Kunt (ca. 1777 - 1865)
Died: 23 Jun 1844, New Orleans, Louisiana

Couvertié came to New Orleans as one of the many refugees from San Domingue after the slave uprising there. His brother-in-law Pierre Lamothe (ca 1770 - ca. 1823) was also a prominent San Domingue/New Orleans silversmith, and his son Èmile Honoré Couvertié (ca. 1809 - 1866) continued the family trade as jeweler in New Orleans.
