Help identifying mark chinese - ZhengYoung?

Post by Mikoh »

Good afternoon,

I have searched the web to find out more about a sterling silver box that has been handed down in the family.
It comes from my great great uncle who had an antique shop in England in the 1930-40’s.

The box is solid silver and engraved with a stork believed to be chinese. I was told it inscribed with the artist's name ZhengYong and dates around 1890-1910.

I am attaching pictures of the box and the inscription which may not be in the right direction to read!

Thank you for your insights and time.
All the best,

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the Forum.

For me, your images are not enlarging.

https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended. Do not use Photobucket or Dropbox.

There are no hallmarks. There is only the name of the engraver in the last image. It looks like a recent one. Are you sure this is silver?

But silverware made in that period usually came with hallmarks specifying the silver content like "足銀", and the name of the workshop that made it. These marks all should be stamped in little rectangles. Are you sure this is silver?
