Hi Members
very surprised no info on mark, any gut feelings ? would think box dates to around 1900-20. Tortoise shell top and base.
strange mark not known, looks like full mark was in a circle. Any ideas re attached symbol on lid. this may be a clue.
Regards Guido.

Hi
The 800 number could be Italian, but the symbols on the lid don't look Italian.
Check the material of the lid and base.
Often in the 1920s the turtle shell was imitated with celluloid or other materials.
Best regards

::::: Were the hallmarks struck such that only the top half of the hallmarks appear? :::::
:::::: I did have a hallmark that was a circle with initials in it with a 935 purity stamp and we assumed it was from Austria (Vienna). ::::::::

Many thanks Amena and Aguest for your replies and comments.
Not sure if it matters what material is on lid and base ,although gives us a clue to date and quality if not tortiose shell.
interesting comments re mark may be Austrian.
still a bit of a mystery .I agree symbol on lid and mark do not look Italian.

Hello Memebers
Via Steve Davis ,Member on Facebook ,Sterling silver and plated Markings Help ,Forum.
He has identified the part mark to be of Gebruder Reiner of Bayer Germany.

He noticed the mark on a similar ivory top box (not mine)_ I posted on this forum back in 2021.

Many thanks to Steve ,great work. Thought members here would be interested in this discovery.

I do not think that it is Gebrüder Reiner. The mark looks similar but is actually different. You'll find the mark in this forum under "German Maker's Marks - after 1886".

Hello, fully agree with silverfan - not a Reiner mark. Similiar, but just that. Besides - Reiner never made small silverware just like that. The company still exists in the city of Krumbach, Germany and You may want tio contact them for verification. Contact info is to be found on the net. The boss, Dr. R. Liebenberg, is a very friendly and openminded man and will be happy to answer your questions. Regards, Bahner

Hello Silverfan and Baher
many thanks for both of your comments and opinions.
My feeling is that you are both not correct.
I feel it is The Reiner mark.
As for your comment Baher ,"they never made silverware like that" I have posted images of a small box with their mark ,to prove they made boxes like this.
I have contacted the company as you suggested ,waiting for a reply.
I am not sure why you do not feel it is not their mark ,it is clear to me that it is ,the bottom section of the mark.
There are quite a few marked Reiner small boxes online including the one I posted here a few years ago.
regards Guido

I have looked at the marks you referred me to. I agree that my mark is not like these.
Although saying that Reiner seems to have had another maybe later mark ,that is not in that same section.
The Gebruder Reiner mark (part on my box) has been Identified by many people as a Gebruder Reiner mark,
So even though different to the marks in that section ,My mark maybe later new mark or maybe another company.
will be interesting if I get a response from the company.
regards Guido.

Hello, due to the flooding in Southern Germany after the rains of the last days (Krumbach and the company of Gebr. Reiner were affected, too, as Dr. Liebenberg told us) allow the company a few more days to answer. Regards, Bahner

Hi gsmoggy,
I just spoke with Dr. Liebenberg, the boss of Gebrüder Reiner, Krumbach. He confirmed that the shown mark is not a Reiner mark. He does not know who is the ownwer of this mark.
