Hartmann Caviar Bowl

I found this beautiful item at an estate sale. I have done some research on it; however, information about the manufacturer, etc. is very limited. Based on what I have found so far, I think that it is a caviar bowl that was manufactured by the Eduard Hartmann Metalware Factory in Germany sometime in the 1920s-30s. Can anyone tell me anything else about it?

It's unlikely that yours is a caviar bowl.
As far as I know, according to gourmets, caviar should never be in contact with metals, because the flavor would be altered.
The shape is that of an Italian parmesan bowl, but the fish on the lid is a bit out of place.
I don't know what it could be used for

The handle on the lid does look like an beluga sturgeon. Perhaps originally it had a glass liner inside?
Indeed information about Hartmann is scarce.

Hello, this might be pre-1900. In 1900 Eugen (sic) Hartmann sold the company to Benno Gumperz & Moritz Hahn, who continued under Hartmann's name. They specialized in tableware for hotels and restaurants, the shapes of the objects being clear-cut, the surface undecorated. This is obviously not the case here, so I think this - whatever it is - precedes 1900. Regards Bahner

It is indeed an item for hotels and restaurants. This one, almost identical, bears the mark of Krupp in Milan.

This also has no glass liner inside.
