Possible 18th century German Lidded Beaker? OR later Hanau Repro?

Post by Spartcom5 »

Found this beaker. It is Rococo in style and has two hallmarks on the bottom. The inside is gold gilded. It looks like an 18th century German beaker but something is telling me it is more likely a 19th century Hanau silver repro. Maybe the hallmarks can tell us but I haven’t had luck IDing them yet. Any help as always is greatly appreciated!!

That's not an easy question to answer. I think the lid doesn't belong to the cup or was made later. The cup itself could be genuine. The hallmark shows a nettle leaf, like those used in many towns in Schleswig-Holstein and also in a few towns in Lower Saxony. Rinteln, for example. The master's mark shows a house mark, like those found in the 17th century. This Hausmarke contains an S and probaly an A. The Sebastian family lived in Rinteln and was active there from the middle of the 17th century and there are some of them with A and S in the name. Unfortunately, I don't have any marks from the early members of this family.
