Van Kempen & Son Spoon & Scoop Set - Need Help To ID

Post by hihotel »

I have a set of small Dutch silver serving utensils, I believe a demitasse spoon that measures about 4-1/2" and a shovel or scoop - not sure what to call it - that measures 4-1/4". Both have the same marks, the "VK crescent" and a sword. I can't figure out which sword it is - can someone help me determine which one it is? Also I'm pretty sure it is 833 silver - is confirming that a function of the sword mark also? The sword mark on the shovel is the clearest (2nd pic). Thank you for your help.

Your shovel or scoop is actually a sugar spoon, made by the Dutch company J.M. Van Kempen & Sons, based in Voorschoten.

The sword is the hallmark used on small silver items which are too small to fully mark (see also http://www.925-1000.com/Fnetherlands_Date_Code.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It indicates silver with a grade of either .833 or .934.

Thank you, diplomat! I sure appreciate your time. Is there a chance you could determine which of the three sword marks this is? The second picture has the best image of it. (I also need to figure out the pattern, have no idea where to go for that, but I digress.) Thank you again, this is very helpful. Cheers, hihotel.

HiHotel

Hotel Motel I believe it could be the sword used for 833 fineness period 1906 -1953. Why? Look at the grip of the sword. Yes I know I could be ....
Enjoy your spoons.
