Octagonal Silver Chest - Origin and Hallmark?

Post by vhinz2k5 »

To all experts here,

I have an octagonal silver chest given to me by a strange old woman whom I have helped. This weight about 56 troy ounces (1-3/4 kilogram). Please help me about its country of origin and hallmarks/maker's mark.

I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you very much and God bless!

Hello, the mark on top looks like a maker's mark, and the one blow may be a purity mark meaning "pure silver". Very likely it was crafted in China in the late 19th C or early 20th C, and the scene depicts a traditional Chinese story.
