Russian 1795 Hallmarks, Fake or Real?
Re: Russian 1795 Hallmarks, Fake or Real?
Thank you Juke! Anyone else? I would really like someone to focus on the hallmarks of my tray and give their opinion on it. For example, the font of the letters "CC" on my tray seem much slimmer to the "CC" seen in the photo of the tray another person posted, the one that looks gold-washed.

You can easily make a search for Stepan Savelyev's silver and find other items made by him and how his marks look.
The marking system on Russian silver in the end of 18th century was somewhat complex and there was to some extent a variation on the outlook of the type of marks the assayer used. Also the makers needed to redo their marks at the state mint every few year due to the wear of them so there are small variations on how the makers marks looks for different years. Thereby as I consider there is no need to question the authenticity due to different style of the markings what has been shown.
