Small porringer from London?

Hi,

This small porringer is high (total): 3,5 cm, lenght: 8,1 cm, diameter bowl: 5 cm. Weight: only 18 gramms. Maybe a miniature?
There is the mark RP. I don´t know that mark. Looks like a London mark to me. The initials looks old to me. There is another mark ZII at the bottom. That is a (modern) Dutch taxmark for re-entering the market.

The mark rings a bell- I'm sure I've seen it before. Nice little thing- yes, a toy porringer, early 18th century, and I would think it to be British, possibly provincial.

I'll take a more thorough look later and see if I can find it if nobody beats me to it.

Hi,

Could it be Richard Pargenter (ent. 1730), London?

For comparison Richard Pargeter mark seen on spoon.

Also RP in an oval punch registered Feb 1737

If you should ask me the maker’s mark on your miniature porringer is not of Richard Pargeter.

Hi Oel,

You are right. It's not Pargeter. Especially the foot of the "P" differs significantly. Because there are no other marks than the makersmark and this kind of item is mostly English, I think in the first place: London. Maybe that is a wrong assumption.

Apologies, total fail on my part- I have no idea. However, it is very likely British and early 18th century. It could well be Provincial, hence the difficulty in locating the makers mark. The lack of other marks also support this, but to be honest it's quite common to find small pieces like this makers mark only.

Hi JBA,

Thank you for your comment. Probably someday the makersmark comes across. This maker didn't mark only this small porringer.

I am still certain I have seen this mark before on a similar object...
