Hi all,

Here is another gem I am having difficulty in identifying. Marked only with .92
The box seems very old and somewhat fragile, but the detail and workmanship is truly fantastic. I believe it may be Turkish or even Persian in origin. Weight is about 175 grams, measures about 10x6x4cm.
Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks to all whom reply…

Filigree work — seldom marked and made almost everywhere, as pointed out by kind friend from Denmark. Let’s concentrate on the craftsmanship then; various shapes made of twisted wire, then placed on flat surface and dusted with powdered solder and heated with a burner. Not too complicated unless soldered to solid silver surfaces (the bottom of the box in this particular case). It should be kept in mind - hard soldering filigree to silver demands heating the entire piece making the process more demanding. Therefore, the rule of thumb is; more solid silver in filigree pieces, the better.
