Bergische-metallwarenfabrik BME Silver FLatware Mark

Post by PaulMuadDibKA »

Hi, I have looked around the internet to search the purity of this flatware of my mom.
The mark says BME and I have made a possibly match for a bergische-metallwarenfabrik silverware, but I didnt find the mark online so I can not pin point nor its year of fabrication nor its purity.
The set includes three little knifes, 1 big fork and 1 big spoon.
I tryed to get the better picture possible of the mark, hope its up to the required standards.

Hello, in this case BMF is for "Berndorfer Metallwaaren Fabrik", an old mark used by Austrian maker Krupp-Berndorf. The pattern is listed in pre-1900 catalogues, my guess would be that is was originally designed before 1890. Believe it to be silver plated (though it is possible that Krupp-B. also used this mark on its German Silver patterns). Best wishes, Bahner

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Your images are not clear but could it be BMF for Berndorfer Metallwaren-Fabrik?

If you use our search option in the right hand corner of this page and enter BMF you will find more information.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

This chart does not show your exact mark, but shows examples of the 'B' with combined 'MF':

First, sorry for the bad quality of the marks, Im new to high macro pictures, XD

Second, many thanks to you guys for your answers, but I have a question...

This particular BMF set is meant to be a part of a Spanish J.Sellan/Sellan set (http://www.munozarce.com/contrastes/plateros/OZ/id4.htm [Scroll down to see mark]) which has a very similar pattern:
http://i.imgur.com/fVFMX9N.jpg
The Sellan set dates from 1873-1881 (as seen in the marks), with one piece being from as early as 1862 (J.Sellan mark, medium size spoon).
Other pieces of similar pattern I found are from Spanish Espuñes 1878 (http://www.munozarce.com/contrastes/plateros/AF/id5.htm) and Spanish Duran 1914-16 (http://www.munozarce.com/contrastes/plateros/AF/id4.htm [Scroll down to see mark]).

So what Bahner says is that they are probably from the same set as the XIX ones, and then so they are silver coated? Isn´t it possible that they are from those dates and silverware?

Or probably they were bought with the XX ones, so then they are marked as BMF but from his German silverware?

If so, which grade would the probably be? I mean, I know almost for sure that the 1862-1881 Sellan set is a grade 800 because it was difficult back then to find bigger purity (although Im not sure, if you guys have any idea about Sellan grades back then it will be very much welcome!).

But, if it was bought along the Duran ones (1914-16), then they re probable 925/000 ones right?

Well, anything more that you can say on this matter is appreciated!

Thanks again!

I have a set of silver-plate that I think is Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik. Berndorfer and Bergische Metallwarnfabrik have names and apparently marks that are very similar. Didn't they both use BMF with the M and F joined? I can't read German, so could not read the page that someone referred to earlier. Mine have BMF.AS on them. The M and F are joined. Does anyone know what the AS stands for?
