Hello everyone,
I have this old antique cresset and I think its Russian. It have two hallmarks: first one is orthodox church and i think that other one is letter "k"
Can someone help me to determine maker or when is this made? Thank you very much. If I made some mistakes posting this topic, please tell me I will correct it immediately. I am new here :)

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

It's a great piece. It appears to me to be from Budapest, hopefully one of the other members can tell us more.

Trev.

Hi Trev,
Thank you very much.
I looked, as you said, in Budapest hallmarks but I didn't saw cross on the top of the church like on mine.
What do you think "K" stands for?
thanks again on your time

Hello!
This mark is from Pest. The maker is Johannes Krieck (I.K). This time in the Pest silversmith guild used date letter to determin the year or years . This is what you can see in the middle, originally presumably was a "P" or a "q".
When I reach my sources, I can talk to you more about Krieck. (As I remember, he died in the '30-s)
Budapest became in 1873, when Pest, Buda and Óbuda united. From 1867 was the Diana head marks in useful, and the guilds ceased.
Best regards!

Hi!
Johannes Krieck was a honoured member of the silversmiths guild in Pest.
The sources mentioning him from 1806-1846.
From 1816 to 1830 he was the assay master of the guild, from 1830. dec. 12. to 1832. dec. 8. he was the vice master of the guild.
His workshop in 1839 was in the Herrengasse, in 1846 in the Schlangengasse.
His prentices:
Rapel József, Teuchtman József, Bányai Zsigmond, Fazekas Gábor.

P. Brestyánszky Ilona: A pest-budai ötvösség. 276-277.

We know his 2 different maker mark, but all of them is similar, the difference is on the size.
Best regards!
