Hi all

I would really appreciate some help with the candlestick below (one of a pair). The lion looks to me like the Darmstadt mark but could perhaps be Brunswick. As for the maker I have been unable to find anything. Any thoughts will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hi Emma - I think your candlesticks may be Spanish rather than German. Cordoba circa 1780. Antonio Santa Cruz. Possibly the administrator could move this to Other Countries. John

Indeed, these hallmarks are Spanish.

The rampant lion is the mark of the city of Cordoba. The name cruz is a marker´s mark, Antonio Jose Santa Cruz.

Hallmarks like those featured in the book MARCAS DE LA PLATA ESPAÑOLA Y VIRREINAL. Editorial Antiquaria, pages 37 & 38

Dear Ovo and Joho

Thank you so much for your help. Ovo is there any chance you could load a copy of the page in the book where you found the marks? It would be much appreciated.

Regards

Emma
