Hi,
I have this rather nice gilded spoon in the European style, but the marks look somewhat American/Canadian to my untutored eye, hence I've popped it in this section. I am hoping that someone may be able to identify the marks for me - country of manufacture, maker, approx date (which I would guess would be in the first half of the 19th century).
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Silverk.
Maker's marks on this spoon?
Re: Maker's marks on this spoon?
I've never seen those marks, but I've seen dozens of times that pattern with different marks, and it was always silverplate. I advise you to test it.

Hi Amena,
Yes, I'm very aware of many British silverplate marks of this type, but I'm 100% confident that the spoon is silver, then gilded.

Seems Pittsburgh 1857-60 next to retailer mark gives some inkling of support to your theory of American origins (scroll down): https://www.sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Ret/RetR1.html
Same idea, different order.
