Brushed finish on silver plating

Post by KateNouveau »

Hello all,

I have a silver plated cocktail shaker with a brushed finish. I've attempted to clean it with silver polish, and used a tooth brush on a small area with some warm water and baking soda, but the black tarnish that has come forth seems to be stuck in the very fine grooves of the brushed finish, making it look gray.
Any advice welcome, thank you!

Hi Kate,

Welcome to the Forum.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that perhaps that is intended finish from new.

Hi,
It is meant to be like that; it adds texture to satin finish. Like patina in embossed silver.
It can be removed by vigorous polishing and by chemical methods, but then the finish will be lost and silver plating damaged.
In short, leave it like this, looks really nice.
Regards
