I found this at a garage sale, it was really ugly, I cleaned it up. I’ve looked all over and can’t find any marks that looks like this. I’d like to know more about it. If someone could help I’d appreciate it. Jon

Welcome to the Forum Jon,

I suspect the reason you are having difficulty is that your Victorian pint mug is made from pewter rather than silver. It was commercially used in a pub/ale house and as such its capacity was required to be verified. The crowned VR(Victoria Regina) over 507 is a British Weights & Measures Verification mark meaning the volume has been inspected by an official Weights & Measures Inspector. The inscription on the bottom "Fountain Strood" is the name of a tavern caled "Fountain" of High Street, Strood. Details of the pub can be found here. http://www.dover-kent.com/2014-project- ... trood.html

Cheers,
Steve

Thank you so much for the assistance, I will look for pewter stuff. It is now so shiny I mistook it for silver. Again I appreciate you.
