""Douro Silver" Electroplate Trade Name. Not "Wrights"?

Post by Essexboy Found »

Hello, this is a is a double-sided post, a question and probably not the right answer. My question is about "Douro Silver". Is this another one of those numerous electroplated silver trade names that nobody knows anything about? Has anyone seen it before and knows which electroplating concern might have used the trade name?

This example of Douro Silver does come with an associated name though, T&F Wright, Dover(UK). There is information about T&F Wright. My speculation on them was they were just the retailer and not the manufacturer of electroplated items. I was surprised however that T&F Wright were not retailing jewellers. My second choice however was ironmongers.

Kelly's Directory of Kent, 1903 Part 2 Private Resident & Trade Directories

IRONMONGERS-RETAIL.
......................Wright T. & F. 12 Cannon St. & Market Street, Dover

Earlier though, in 1882 the Kelly's Directory of Kent another concern is listed,
.....................Wright Brothers, ironmongers, 14, 15 & 16 Cannon Street

In the 1891 Kelly's Directory of Kent, Surrey & Sussex Part 2. Kent Court & Trade Directories there were extra addresses

IRONMONGERS-RETAIL
...................Wright Brothers, 15 & 16 Cannon Street & 86 & 88 High Street, Dover

The relationship between Wright Brothers and T. & F Wright is indicated in the London Gazette entry below.

LONDON GAZETTE, JULY 29, 1898
NOTICE is hereby; given that the Partnership heretofore, subsisting between us the undersigned John James Wright, Thomas Pannett Wright and Frederick George Wright carrying on business as Ironmongers at Nos.15 and 16 Cannon-street Dover in the county of Kent under the style or firm of Wright Brothers has been dissolved by mutual consent as and from the second day of July 1898. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Thomas Pannett Wright and Frederick George Wright.
— Dated, this twenty-third day of July 1898.
JOHN JAMES WRIGHT. THOMAS PANNETT WRIGHT. FREDERICK GEORGE WRIGHT.

Trade directory entries in the early part of the 20th appear then to show another “Wright” ironmongers in Dover to compete with T&F Wright. Was this John James Wright again in another family concern?

Kelly's Directory of Kent, 1903 Part 2 Private Resident & Trade Directories

IRONMONGERS-RETAIL.
..................Wright John & Sons, 15 Cannon St. Dover
.................Wright T. & F. 12 Cannon St. & Market Street, Dover

Private Resident & Trade Directories Kelly's Directory of Kent, 1913
ironmongers
................Wright John & Sons, I5 Cannon St & 4a, Market Street, Dover
................Wright T. & F. 12 Cannon Street & Market Street, Dover

Thomas P. Wright and Frederick G. Wright then were T&F Wright but, regarding Douro Silver, if anyone has seen the mark, did it have any other names associated with it?
