Clemens Friedell
(1872-1973)
Although American born, Friedell's family moved to Vienna, Austria when he was a small child. As a teen there, he apprenticed with an Austrian silversmith. He eventually returned to the U. S. as a young man and, in 1901, found work at the Gorham firm where he was employed crafting their exceptional handmade Martelé line. He relocated to Pasadena, California in 1911 and set up his own workshop, specializing in hand crafting pieces that were reminiscent of Gorham's Martelé. In 1912, he was commissioned to produce the first of many trophies he made for the Rose Parade.
