The American costume jewelry house - Trifari - was founded in 1912 by Gustavo Trifari , a third generation jeweler and goldsmith born and trained in Naples, Italy. The firm produced fine quality costume jewelry and truly hit its stride in the 1930s when they took on Alfred Philippe as head of design. Philippe had been a designer of fine jewels for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels and applied his fine jewelry sensibilities to the world of costume. For the next two decades, his innovative design leadership brought Trifari to the forefront of American Costume manufacturers.
