Zlatarka, 1919-1933 Slovenian cigarette case
Could somebody please tell what Zlatarka means, is it a retailer's name or the maker's name? This cigarette case is gilded inside, and the lid is decorated with niello. The hallmark is for Yugoslavia 1919-1933, I for 0.900 silver, and 3 for Ljubljana. Thanks https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg ht...

Newcastle 1842 table forks marked TW
Could somebody please help me with the maker's mark on this set of table forks? TW in 1842-43 could be either Thomas Wheatley or Thomas Watson I think. Thanks

Re: silver scissors
Thanks for your response, I had a feeling these scissors weren't French. Perhaps a country bordering on France, who copied their style of mark? Problem is that there is only the maker's mark, no national or town mark. I've checked Belgium, but no success in the books by Stuyck and by Van Dievoet. Sw...

Unmarked naturalistic silver spoon
This spoon has no original assay mark on it, only a modern Dutch assay mark for 0.925 silver (ZI). The design is naturalistic, with a twig-style handle and a bowl decorated with flowers. It is 20 cm long. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg Could it be Europ...

silver scissors
Could somebody help identify the mark on this pair of scissors, 15 cm long, and made entirely of silver, the blades as well as the handles. https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg There is only one mark on them, which resembles an 18th century French mark, that is why I am posting it in the French Si...

Persian silver basket marked for Mehdizadeh
Could someone help me with the marks on this small swing-handle basket? I have been told that one of the marks is the name Mehdizadeh, which is a common family name in Iran. Does someone know whether this is the name of an Iranian maker or retailer? I have no idea about the other mark, perhaps a tow...

Re: By Bardies-Faure of Paris, is it a letter holder?
Thanks to everybody for your help with this one. I think I'll go for Trev's idea of a tradesman's notecase, as the pattern of the traces of the ribbon on the back of the two pieces of card are exactly what you'd expect from the picture he shows. Two slanting and two straight on each, as if on the fr...

By Bardies-Faure of Paris, is it a letter holder?
Does someone know what this is please? It consists of two identical pieces of card 13 x 9 cm, covered with silk on one side and mounted with silver on the other. There are remains of red ribbon stuck behind the card which probably first held the two halves together. There is no sign of a hinge havin...

Re: Cyrillic KB on St Petersburg stick-pin
Qrt.S, thank you for joining the discussion on the marks on the St Petersburg pin. The marks on the needle of the pin are a bit worn but hopefully you can see that there is a maker's mark, the same as I've shown before, and a small combined town mark with assay, looks like 80. There is no assay mast...

Re: Maker OMN in Finland
Many thanks for this information about Turun Hopea Oy. I see from their website that they were founded on 13 June 1945, and that they are still in business, producing jewelry mainly. I wonder what the initials OMN mean?
Best wishes.
Best wishes.

Many thanks. It was the first time I'd seen an owner go to the trouble of punching his initials on a spoon instead of engraving them. Something else. Do you know if anyone has got around to listing journeymen's tally marks associated with the different maker's marks around 1800? I've got a couple of...

OGH in oval, 925S Denmark
There have been several reports of a mark of OGH in an oval on 925S silver pieces which are also marked STERLING DENMARK. Problem is that OGH is not registered as a Danish maker's mark. But Olaf Gunnar Hjertzell did register this mark in Stockholm Sweden in the 1930's. Another possibility mentioned ...

http://h.imagehost.org/t/0697/KB1.jpg I am hoping that Postnikov or other Russian expert can tell me who the maker is of this pre-1896 St Petersburg stick-pin. MW mark on silver pill-box
This is a real puzzle (to me at least). It's a sterling quality silver pill-box (modern Netherlands re-assay mark ZI for >0.925), marked with one original mark of MW in an oval. It has a push-on lid and a style typical of northern German or Low Countries boxes from the beginning of the 19th century....
