Re: Austrian coffee spoon 1855
The three other possibilities you list were: Anton Reichhalter: His mark is a simple AR impressed, with no frame. He made watch cases, rather than spoons. Anton Richard: I don't find a photograph of any marks for him, but he was a goldsmith and jeweler, which would (I think) tend to exclude him. Ant...

Re: Austrian coffee spoon 1855
There are several makers with an AR in an oval or ellipse, none of whom quite seem to match: August Reineck was dead in 1846; Anton Roth received his license in 1856 (one year after the mark on your spoon), and his mark also has a fair amount of empty space between the bottom of the letters and the ...

Re: Austro-Hungarian silversmith S.S
Sorry to respond to my own post, but (just to be clear): the mark for Samuel Steiner (3) was "S St" in a notched rectangle, and does not match; the mark for Samuel Steiner (2) of Schwarz & Steiner was S & S in an oblong (rounded rectangle), and also does not match; and I have not l...

Re: Austro-Hungarian silversmith S.S
Hmmm. There seem to have been three Samuel Steiners. There was a Samuel Steiner (1) (born around 1844, active 1868 to 1889) who was granted his license in 1868; his workshop was transferred to Samuel Steiner (2), who was granted his license in 1890, and was active 1890 to 1903. He became a partner o...

Re: Help with snuff box marks.
No, enamelling is not at all unusual. Many have an elaborate multi-coloured design, while others have a guilloche decor covered by a single colour of enamel, and is often done on a metal other than silver. You might have a look on eBay (just search for "enamel snuffbox", for example, or hu...

Re: Help with snuff box marks.
If I read the mark correctly, it is an A-R (no serifs) with a dot between the letters, in an oval. This would be Anton Josef Reinhardt, active 1892 to sometime after 1936. (Your box, of course, would be before 1924, when the markings changed.) AJ Reinhardt was registered as a goldsmith and jeweler, ...

Re: Who is the maker?
I don't know when or whether Bibus was named court purveyor, either. The first forum topic you list had a description by "MLF" which included the Doppeladler mark as well. The images unfortunately are gone, but the mark will have had the same meaning. Since the mark appears on other pieces...

Re: Who is the maker?
The FB mark is that of Franz Bibus, whose factory was in Moravská Třebová. Please have a look at the mark in the Dianakopf; some of the pieces of his which I have are marked A2 (for Moravská Třebová) rather than the usual Vienna mark, although I do not see that from your photograph. (Other tim...

Thomas Albrecht, possibly? The date would then have to be 1816.

The mark is a JZ, not JF, isn't it? That will be for Josef Zauza, active 1862 to 1903.

The C.W mark will be that of Karl (or Carl) Warmuth, most likely junior. Karl junior began working alongside his father in 1897, and Karl senior retired in 1901, so there seems to be a period during which the mark may apply to either of them (although this may also be merely an ambiguity or error in...

Re: Could this be Austrian
Yes, the hallmark (the bird to the right of the word "sterling") is for 935 silver from 1922 onwards, and it was assayed in Vienna. Sorry, but I don't know who the maker was. Perhaps someone else will recognize the maker's mark.

Re: Vienna chamberstick - Heinrich Starke?
No, definitely not the mark of Heinrich Starke, whose mark has no dot between the letters. There are two marks on p. 173 of the Neuwirth book, one of which has normal "sharp" corners, and the other is a possible attribution to Starke, and might have rounded or angled corners, but is worn--...

Re: Request Help to ID Austrian Empire Maker Mark
The "puzzle" of the discrepancy between the assay date and the licensing date turns out to have been trivially simple: there was no assay stamp for 1841. The assay stamp for 1840 was also used for 1841 and 1842, and a new one was issued in 1843. We can assume, then, that your item was prod...

Re: Help Identitfying hallmark on a Candlestick
It's a bit difficult to determine whether the maker's mark is ES or FS; FS would be Franz Schiffer, and ES his son Eduard. Both of them were k.k. Hof-Gold-und Silberarbeiter (and they worked together for a few years as Franz Schiffer & Sohn). Franz was active through 1854, and Eduard alone until...

Re: Request Help to ID Austrian Empire Maker Mark
Correction to my previous post: I checked another source, in which Bastiany and Berroyer are indeed listed. There is a maker's mark for Berroyer (quite different than the one for Paul Braun) but nothing for Bastiany. My apologies.

Re: Request Help to ID Austrian Empire Maker Mark
The PB stamp will be that of Paul Braun (and is one of the few Viennese marks which does not have raised letters in an incised field.) One small puzzle is that he was awarded his "Gewerbeverleihung" on 20 Feb 1841, which is thus after the date on the assayer's mark. If you look at the tabl...

This might well be by Anton Oberhauser (and his sons) from Vienna, who had a branch in Brünn from 1808 onwards (a "Jahrmarktshütte").

Re: Vienna tray, maker W&C?
It looks as though my response vanished, so we'll try again: This will be Würbel & Czokally (Karl Würbel and Anton Czokally). Würbel became a partner in the firm in 1892, and Czokally retired in 1900, which may help date the piece (although Würbel might have continued to use the stamp for so...
