I normally collect Dutch silver spoons, but couldn't resist buying this large 12in spoon. I only recognize the leopard and lion, but know absolutely nothing else about British marks. Can anyone identify these hallmarks for me?
I believe this is called a brandy spoon? The year date seems to be a k which would be 1894. There is a very worn inscription on the frontpiece of the handle which looks like 1896 (this is the best picture I could get.) Thank you! My eye isn't very trained yet, but now that you point out that the HH isn't crowned - it seems obvious. Sorry about the picture size - I was worried they would be too huge, so I erred in the opposite direction.
This spoon has two hallmarks. One appears to be the Dutch export mark of a lion with an intruding key. The other mark appears to be HH in a square with a crown. The picture was the best I could get.
