Re: Unknown maker

Zolotnik, you present a very interesting mystery. Unfortunately I find very little information of Kiev silversmiths in both Postnikova and Ivanov. One interesting note in Postnikova, most hallmarks beginning with the letter Л are unknown masters. Those identified have names such as Laz, Leiser, Lev...

Re: Help! Pretty positive its silver, Russian?

There was one silversmith working in St. Petersburg during this time period. I quote from Alexander Ivanov, page 175. Gold and silversmiths in Russia (1600-1926) Volume I. Willo Tenis Owner of a silver workshop, mentioned in 1897, Torgovaya str., 6. St. Petersburg. Initials on the hallmark: TB. It i...

Qrt.S,
This is the best photo I can take of the Kokoshnik. I have not cleaned the cup. It looks to have extra writing between the head and assay initials.

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Qrt.S, I am sending another photo of the Kokoshnik. It looks a little strange under magnification. Possibly a scratch or writing between the head and Assayers letters. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/Silvercollector99/Prokofev/Eppcuphallmarks1.jpg I also have a silver salt dish with E. Prok...

Re: Genuine wodkacup?

I have done some research on these marks and would like to add to the discussion. First, I show the marks from Postnikova of the Assay mark for Mickail Borovshchikov. Notice that there is no dot between the initials. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/Silvercollector99/CC/Mb.jpg Second, are po...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

I have taken pictures of a small charka made by I.P. Prokefev. I believe it to be original, but please add your comments. The lighting of the picture shows what appears to be copper color. This is not present except in the picture. If the original 2 cups of Smokanabeach really look silver, then I wi...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Smokanabeach, Your cups appear to be made of copper, rather than silver. They look silver plated. The etching pattern shows copper under silver. The base also does not look silver. I have a cup from E.P. Prokofev and Ivan Lebedkin as assayer. I will take pictures and post soon. Perhaps a comparison ...

Re: Malcz dish

Reply to Dad, Your comments led me to do more research with the Malcz dish. My original post asked about Poland while under Russian jurisdiction. Could this dish have been made when Poland was not under Russian control? Two comments came to my attention. The first is from Paul Paulson, author of Gui...

Re: What silversmith is it?

I cannot attest to authenticity, but I can add information about the hallmarks. The SA hallmark appears to be Samual Arnd who owned a shop in St. Petersburg. Hallmark is listed in Postnikova #1843. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/Silvercollector99/Samual%20Arnd/SamualArnd-1.jpg A rough tran...

Malcz dish

I am posting this in the Russian forum. I know that Poland was under Russian jurisdiction in the past. I have a dish I believe made by Karol Malcz in Warsaw. I would like to have opinions as to authenticity. It is badly tarnished but well crafted. The dimensions are 9.5 cm length, 7 cm width, 4 cm h...

Hello, I have a silver plated salt spoon from the soviet era that has price stamped. It says Ц1р30к, or 1 rubel 30 kopek. I also have 2 soviet salt containers but will need a better lens to get a picture. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/Silvercollector99/CroppedBack.jpg http://i1080.phot...
