Re: IW stamped twice - John Warner?

Hi Gordon, I was a little confused as all Warner marks that I have seen have the pellet between - and the other example on this website does not quite match up to this one - although the marks on mine are quite rubbed so difficult to say definitively. Thank you again Gordon for your detailed and inf...

Re: IW stamped twice - John Warner?

Hi Gordon, Many thanks for your reply! To the naked eye I cannot see a serrated edge to the punch but will have another look in the daylight! I will try also to post a better pic of the mark on the right - I don't think there is a pellet between the letters. In the meantime posting a closer {but pro...

Re: Are these Joseph Kinselagh spoons?

Hi Trev,
yes, I see now that the first letter could be an S - that hadn't occured to me, I could only see J initially. Also I had always thought that the lion passant would be present on English silver - learning slowly but surely!
Thank you for your response!
Best wishes, Jo.

IW stamped twice - John Warner?

Hi there, here is another spoon with only makers mark struck twice - no 'ster' or 'sterling' mark. These marks are pretty rubbed - but looks to me like IW. Are these possibly the marks of John Warner? Or am I on the wrong path completely?? All Cork silver that I have personally come across has had t...

Are these Joseph Kinselagh spoons?

Hi again. these two salt spoons have JK marks stamped twice {quite rubbed}. They look like the mark for Joseph Kinselagh to me but in the absence of any 'ster' or 'sterling' mark, I'm not 100% percent sure. Does all Cork provincial silver have the 'sterling' mark? Thanking you in advance for any inf...

Re: Mystery Maker of Tablespoon - UJ

Hi Trev,
of little or no help to you{!} - I believe the same mark was noted on a pair of Old English pattern sugar tongs and catalogued as 'unascribed but probably colonial circa 1800'.

Strange 'Ramu' mark - any ideas?

Hi there, these tongs or nips have the marks as shown - does anyone know of their origin? I was sure I had seen this mark before, identified as a Swiss maker- maybe I dreamt it!! The mark looks like a face with a 3 above - I cannot find any mark resembling this one. Can anyone put me right? As alway...

Hello Trev, My word, well done! I honestly thought I had exhausted all avenues and would never get to the bottom of it! Please understand that I'm very grateful for the amount of effort you have put into this. I love the challenge of finding the origin, maker etc of silver and it really is quite fru...

Pill box - any ideas of the maker JJ?

Hi there, this little pillbox has the marks as pictured - I have not been able to find any reference to these makers marks - does anybody have any ideas? It appears to date to 1842 - but am prepared to stand corrected! As always, any information would be gratefully received!! Posting a pic of the cr...

Re: Huge tray - unknown marks - German?

Hi Vervene, thank you for your response! I had looked though all the pre 1886 marks and couldn't see one that quite matched - I would be interested to find out roughly when it was made and where. Although the eagle does look like a close match for Aachen as you suggested! Hopefully someone can add f...

Huge tray - unknown marks - German?

Hi there, this is a huge silver tray, the origin of which I am not too sure - possibly German??I Have done some research, but could not find a match. Hopefully someone out there will recognize it! In addition to the hallmarks, there is a third mark, it is just too small to get a clear photo - I have...

Re: Irish provincial maker?

Hi again Trev,
Thank you for coming back to me - I do believe that the maker is definitely 'JRH' as you say - John Irish. Finally, a conclusion!! Thanks again for taking the time.... Best wishes, Jo.

Re: Help please?

Hi Belfur,
I believe this ingot was made in Sheffield, year 1977. The bottom mark {duty mark} is a commemorative one for the Queens Silver Jubilee. I am sure this information is correct, if I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me! Hope this helps...Best wishes, Jo.

Re: Articulated horse watch fob? Origin?

Hi Ag2012, thank you, yes I think it's a really super little piece! The makers mark is definitely 'C.P' or 'G.P' and not G.B. The symbol inbetween looks like a cross with a symbol underneath and not a fleur de lys. Can't quite put my finger on it, but will keep looking! Thank you for the heads up or...
