Re: Norwegian maker's mark help needed
Thank you for the replies. I will note both of these makers as it looks like the brooch can be attributed to either one. Thank you!!

Re: Norwegian maker's mark help needed
...it looks more like G.H.. What makes it difficult is the incomplete marking... Anyway, it could be Gunnulf Hegna in Oslo NO 1945-1986.... You could very well be correct. The fact that the last letter is overlapping that diagonal embossing makes it very difficult to read. But the fact that it very...

Norwegian maker's mark help needed
This looks like a very traditional Norwegian sølje to me and I'm hoping it is. It's marked 830S G.R. or possibly 830S G.B. It's hard to tell what the last letter is that overlays the diagonal pattern of the piece. Either way, I can't find a Norwegian maker with either of those marks. I can, however,...

Norwegian sølje? Or possibly Danish?
First of all, this looks like a very traditional Norwegian sølje to me. (I'm hoping it to be.) It's marked 830S GR or possibly 830S GB . It's hard to tell with the last letter overlaying the diagonal pattern of the piece. Either way, I can't find a Norwegian maker with either of those marks. I can, ...

Norwegian(?) trophy cup with unknown mark
I have this small trophy cup from 1905 that I was told was Norwegian. It's about 2-¾" tall. The front has a nice floral design and says "Asta Pris" with a date of July 22, 1905. Can anyone tell me its maker? What does the "6" mean? Thank you. https://www.amazon.com/photos/sh...

Need help with Thorvald Marthinsen Mark
I have this shot glass (?) or shooter that measures 1.5" H x 1.25" W. (If anyone knows what this really is, I'd like to know, too!) It's marked 830S with Thorvald Marthinsen's mark of a goblet within an oval. But there is the addtional mark of what looks to be a "P" overlapped wi...

Norwegian Sølje Brooch--Unable to make out mark exactly
I have a sølje brooch from what I'm sure would be Norway, but I'm unable to make out the mark. I've tried looking up different combinations of letters but can't find a maker with any of them. The combinations I've tried, based on what I think the letters in the mark look like are: GUB, GJB, CUB and ...

Re: Sterling Silver Standards in Norway?
Does it matter? 830 or 925 . did you buy to recycle the silver? The case is many Americans believe that 830 silver is plated. So you have to say its Sterling to get interest from them. So does it realy matter? I dont say that all American act this way, but enough do. To me it matters, yes. I don't ...

Sterling Silver Standards in Norway?
There is a seller selling a piece of solje on an auction site claiming in several places in her listing that the item is sterling silver. However, the mark on the piece is 830s. I sent them a very nice email explaining that 830 is not sterling, and that 925 is sterling. (Sometimes people don't know ...

Re: TOSTRUP Norw.Sølje--Qstn about Mark
Hi, Hope this helps: http://i48.tinypic.com/984i9v.jpg Trev. So how does one come up with a silver content of 826/1000 for a mark of 13¼L? If I were to guess how to use this chart, I would do the following: 812.5 + (62.5 / 4) = 828.125 The number I get (828.125) is close to 826 but it's certainly ...

Re: TOSTRUP Norw.Sølje--Qstn about Mark
Hi, 13¼L was a standard used in Norway until 1892. It indictes 826/1000. See: http://www.925-1000.com/a_Standards.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; For an early advertisement from Jacob Tostrup, see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=20661" onc...

I just acquired an old sølje brooch marked TOSTRUP 13¼L 1868 CHRISTIANIA . Can anyone please tell me what the markings mean, specifically the 13¼L and the 1868 ? Front of brooch: http://s1080.photobucket.com/albums/j327/NorskyGal/?action=view¤t=TostrupSolje-Front.jpg#!oZZ1QQcurrentZZhtt...

Need Help ID-ing Enamel Jewelry Marked "Norge"
I have a matching enamel bracelet and brooch that are both marked "Norge." The bracelet also has 2 addt'l hallmarks that are quite tiny. One hallmark appears to be 3 crowns, which if I understand correctly, this indicates a Swedish item. The pieces are not marked for any silver content---u...

Re: Norwegian Enameled Sølje--Silver or Brass?
I guess I'm unable to edit my original post...but I got to thinking...could this piece be bronze? Also, the metal did respond by brightening up when I took a q-tip lightly dipped in sterling silver cleaner I bought for sølje at my local Scandinavian shop. (I tested the back so I wouldn't get it on ...

Norwegian Enameled Sølje--Silver or Brass?
Does anyone know if Norwegians ever made enameled sølje out of brass? I have a few pieces that are unmarked on the back that I always thought to be gold over silver. I also just bought an unmarked enameled sølje that the seller advertised as brass but I'm wondering if it could possibly be gold ove...

Help w/Norwegian Book Please: Stempler Gull-og Sølvarbeider
I have the Norwegian book "Stempler 'Gull-og Sølvarbeider" to help me identify marks on Norwegian silver jewelry. I have 2 questions for anyone familiar with this book; 1) Next to each mark there are 2 columns. What does the number in the 1st column represent? 2)The 2nd column looks like ...
