Re: Gold, silver, or gold on silver???

Purely based from personal, in hand experience, id figure its gold. The scratch test is pretty indicative as most vermiel items arent thick enough to pass scratch tests for gold. Does not look like any gold fill markings i have seen, foreign or not. Given we cannot make out the markings for sure, it...

Yeah looks to me that crown marking for (750) 18k is pretty much the same. Good call.

Golden Fraternal Badge, Foresters with Simple marks

I collect antique gold fraternal badges and pins. This is a beautiful example of a medal I would collect but I am curious as to the maker..
Marked with a Square around a diamond shape on each piece.. 12-14k?

Re: Pitcher With Strange unknown Markings. Testing Silver.

You are right Francais, its far too soft, Literally like lead soft. I ripped the handle right off trying to lightly tap the lid back into round, it is so very soft. I agree it is plated, but the testing methods I had available were easily obscured by plating and showed "silver" reactions.....

Re: Mexican? 25/000 Gold*Silber Crescent Necklace

Hi Chris, Yes, the amount of precious metal will be minimal. As for the date, it's likely to be the mid to second half of the 20th century. I've just added some details regarding the Speidel firm. They can be found on page two of: Pforzheim Advertisements Trev. Trev, you say this "Little preci...

Re: Mexican? 25/000 Gold*Silber Crescent Necklace

I am a tad embarrassed as I live with a German friend, and hear him say Silber often as well...I am located in an area where Mexican or Spanish speaking nations would be about 88% more likely than German so I am caught off guard.

Re: Mexican? 25/000 Gold*Silber Crescent Necklace

Hi Chris, A friend informs me that your necklace was made by Friedrich Speidel of Pforzheim. It would be made from a non precious base metal with a fused layer of precious metal alloy overlaid on to it. The signification of the punch 25/000 is the quantity of precious metal that has been used. See:...

Re: Gold Necklace Marked 1000?

Hi Chris, Gold that is used in the plating process, to my knowledge, is pure gold, not alloyed at all. This may be the reason why the item is marked '1000'. Trev. So you figure that it is pure 24k gold plated? Hence the 1000 mark? I would figure the necklace is marked as to the fineness, and well, ...

Mexican? 25/000 Gold*Silber Crescent Necklace

I have never seen marks quite like this, they are strange, and based on "common sense" (hardly) or whatever you call it I assume it is a form of gold fill on silver marking, or one for Gold plate over Silver? I only assumed it to be mexican, due to the looks of it and the word "Silber...

Gold Necklace Marked 1000?

As the title says, I am looking into a purchase, they claim gold over silver, but say they can not prove it but I have tested much gold that is "high karat" that leaves a silver type reaction after a little bit. All was authentic, so I assume it is the alloy? Anyways, I would be fine with ...

Re: Star 647 Italy? Need Help

Apparently this is also a La Nouvelle Bague Piece too? I do not understand exactly how that works out? Is one just a retailer and the other the manufacturer? Was it made for La Nouvelle, by New Go Gio? or the other way around?

Any ideas Trev, or Anyone?

Re: RFI Gilt silver Middle Eastern necklace

With the whole Portuguese idea rolling, would it then be a case of "thought it was gilt silver, but its really 19k+ gold" Because that would be pretty sweet! I know a few people who have had that happen!

It does test as Silver, so if anyone has any clues as to the markings....It looks an awful lot like some of the Indian stuff I have..So I am leaning that direction..
