French Export Silver JM Mark with Two Stars
I cannot identify the maker of this mark. It consists of the initials "JM" below a line and two stars above that line in a diamond shape. There are also two column-like supports on either side of the monogram which connect to the line. It makes it look like the cross-section of something. ...

Wow this is very interesting! Here are more photos of the entire teapot and the marks on the body itself:

Re: Maker's Mark on George III Teapot
Ah okay thank you! So the handle then was replaced some 30-50 years later. Out of curiosity, was this a common thing to do?

Maker's Mark on George III Teapot
The main body of this teapot is marked SH for Soloman Hougham. However, the finial knob and handle are marked THH, which I cannot find in any of my reference books. There is also an additional Lion and male or female head in profile stamped on the screw of the knob and handle. Most likely the handle...

Re: George III (?) Mark Identification
Ah I understand now! Somebody would make a cheaper small object to obtain the mark. Then remove that chunk with the mark and attach it to a larger object to make it look like the stamp was already paid. Sneaky!

Re: George III (?) Mark Identification
Oh okay, so they'd make items like these and get them unstamped to avoid taxes. Then they'd put them into a bigger object, which would help them avoid some of the costs.

Re: George III (?) Mark Identification
Wow good sleuthing! You can definitely see the "wells" of the W and S and lower K now that you put a crisper engraving next to it.
One thing that confused us was that the crown stamp is missing on this piece, so how would you be able to identify it as London-made?

George III (?) Mark Identification
We are having a hard time identifying the date, maker, and location for a small silver mustard spoon. We think that it is a George III, sterling, c. 1811-12(?). There is no crown and we don’t know what year the Q is for. We can’t make out the maker because it is too faint. Any help on this identific...

Re: Identifying Mark on Jays Coffeepot
Thank you for this great information. Are there any resources that list the workman marks, or is that not typically known?

Re: Identifying Mark on Jays Coffeepot
Ah yes, that makes more sense. I think I confused it with some Arabic coffee pots I have seen with a side handle and spout.

Identifying Mark on Jays Coffeepot
I acquired a silverplate coffeepot from Jame Jays , perhaps made around the late 1890s. I am having trouble identifying the mark at the bottom of the pot. It is a square with an X or cross inside. It looks similar to the Edinburgh import mark , but that is all I could find. Any help or information o...
