Re: Makers Mark Help On Mexican Necklace

Hello again! Yes that is very possible. However at that point in this persons career (after B.G.'s death), if it is AJ, the connection to her is kind of weak. As you know the system is not that reliable and many silversmiths have been known to allow others to borrow their mark/registration. The fact...

Re: Makers Mark Help On Mexican Necklace

Hello again! I'm familiar with the work of Bernice Goodspeed, however if you research her biography on the 925-1000 archives : "She was active as a jeweler and silversmith until her death in 1971". The letter number registration system was introduced after her death. To further verify I us...

Mexican Silver Brooch, Eagle stamp, VHLC, Guad

Hello, I need help identifying this Mexican piece of jewelry. The Eagle stamp could be a 90 or an 06. I'm not sure of which, I used Mr. Hougart's book to try and identify but could not find anything for either stamp nor for the initials V.H.L.C. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! http...

"(C)JA 18k SS" Ring w/ Orange Stone

Hello, I need help identifying this ring. It is marked "(C)JA 18k SS", I do not know if it truly is American or not. Aside from helping me figure out who the maker is, could anyone tell me what stone this is? https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg

Re: Reference books Personal recommendations

Thank you very much for taking your time on that list Mike! I'm writing all that down for future purchases, and cherry picking in Goodwill stores haha. Does anyone have any preferences for books in the general identification and history of Native American silversmiths? (I have Mr. Bills little book ...

Re: Makers Mark Help On Mexican Necklace

Hello, To begin with, the letter-number registration system was set into motion in 1980 - Present. The system was created to tax the silversmith / manufacturing company not to identify designers or artisans. And sadly enough, comparisons of many letter-number registration to particular silversmiths ...

Re: Need help with makers mark on sterling blue stone ring

Hello,

Looking through my references I came across a few silversmiths who had very similar markings:

Hopi Indian: Bernard Dawahoya
Hopi Indian: Dean Siwingyumptewa
Hopi Indian: Patrick Lomawaima

I, hope, you find what your looking for!
Hahaha....

Re: Cuff Bracelet, Turquoise Stones, Navajo?

Hello again, I found a mark that was similar in appearance but I would like verification if anyone is familiar with or has the references to do so. The Silversmith I came up with was a Hopi Indian: McBride Lomayestewa. known for his "lightening" mark. Thank you all in advance for lending y...

Re: Scottish Provincial Silversmiths book advice

Hello, I'm a collector of vintage/antique jewelry & silverware. I've dealt with many terrible set ups and a few good ones in my previous book buying binges. I can't say I have seen your book, I haven't bought it yet. If you would like more comments and help I suggest taking a picture of each one...
