Re: Asparagus Server? What?

This is a lovely piece. Funny to think it was designed just for asparagus, not that is isn't worthy of its own instrument! I'd love to see stuff like this made today...but have to see I'd probably use it on everything I could.

Re: hey all

This is a very nice piece. Do you know what country it originates from? I remember seeing something similar growing up as a child at my grandparents house, but after she passed I never saw it again. I think it was a family heirloom, so it would be nice to know where it came from.

Re: Mystery Silver and Horn Lamp?

Kind of interesting that it was left to you. I wonder if there is a story behind it that just didn't make it to you. Thanks for sharing though, it is a cool piece..not sure if I would display it since I sort of agree with the creepy vibe.

Re: Irish Claddah Ring?

That's a cool find. Aren't claddah rings usually made with a stone? It would be interesting if this piece is worth something though, have you taken it in to a jewelers for an opinion? I'd hang onto it, it is often you fun across one made so long ago.

Re: Louis XIV 1660 1/12 ecu and a rock

Well, I kinda of like the whole throwing the rock at the man on the coin idea. It makes one of the best stories anyway. I'd be curious to see what a historian would say about this piece. It is interesting to say the least.

Re: indian silver?

There's no markings at all? I have no idea, it seems an off color for me, but it is quite beautiful. I love all of the animals and the cool design. I think you're right on with it coming from India though..or at least made to look like it.

Re: silver child's cup?

I have no idea about this, but was curious as to what story is playing out? I found it hard to make out the details, but it might have been a story piece? Very odd. It is cute, I've never seen anything like it before.

Re: Unusual hallmarks

Can you make out what the area beneath the lion is supposed to be? I haven't seen this before and when I wasn't paying close attention I saw a bunch of teepees (yes, I know this is not the real case). But, in case I see something in the future I'd like to know what it is meant to be.

Re: help please :)

I havent seen a whole lot of Russian work. I don't know why, it just isn't anything I've ever been able to buy around here. This work is really beautiful though. Thank you for sharing because now I know something to look for in my shopping searches :)

Re: 17th century canteen?

I agree. The symbol doesn't seem to match that specific area and seems odd to me. I love the pieces though, they're incredibly beautiful. Were they passed down in the family or were did you purchase them from somewhere?

Re: Handling wooden handles

Nice job cleaning it up, it looks a whole lot better! I find that a lot of older wooden pieces just look dirty. We have an old boat that looks this way, but hopefully when we've reworked it will look fantastic.

Thanks for sharing. I've never thought to use denim before, but we have a bunch of old jeans we need to turn into rags anyway so I'll give it a try. It's funny how simple things give us ideas.

Re: Arthur Stone article

Thanks for sharing! I really love Stone's work and I think this page will help identify some of the pieces because it will work as a great guide. Stone's work was so clean and efficient that it makes me want to collect more of his items despite my typical want for other styles.

Good call on the shadow box. It is a really exquisite design, very beautiful. Did you look up the company any? Maybe you can find others which would lead to a name?

Re: mark too small to read?

Actually is it bad that the first image hurt my eyes less? I was wondering if you'd tried making a pencil mark of the image (putting paper over the item and then rubbing the pencil over) and then blowing up the image? Not sure if this would work, but anything could help. Sorry I am blind. :)

Re: Clueless about a mark..

I don't have any news on these. I have seen them in a lot of different places though. When I was a kid my grandma used to take us to a trading post whenever we went to NM with her and they had these there. Sorry if this doesn't help.

I really love this but also don't see how they go together either. I love the craftsmanship of the heart piece a lot more, but I think that is because it looks a lot older to me and I love old things. Thanks for sharing and I hope you find some answers.

100 Years Ago Today Just to note that today, 20th August, is acknowledged as the date in 1913 that Harry Brearley cast the first stainless steel. Trev. Incredible, thanks for sharing this fact. I'd love to be in Sheffield right now so I can see this, but it isn't really an option. Do you know if th...

Re: Antique silver mystery item, London 1925

I was going to guess it was something tobacco related as well. The bar on the top seems a nice place to rest a cigarette. The piece seems a little beat up and maybe missing a piece or something?
