Re: Oriental stand

This is indeed by a Chinese silversmith in Thailand, early to mid 20th C. The top two characters are likely either the retailer’s marks or the maker’s marks, and the lower two 足銀 mean pure silver, or ”full” silver”. Often these would have at least some Thai writing or numbers on them, as well as the...

Navajo “coppered” silver cuff bracelet ??!!

A Leroy James Navajo cuff bracelet from the 1970s (?). Several points verify that it is his work: the signature and “sterling” stamp, type of turquoise used, and overall style (including the two “buttons”). But I have never seen “coppered” silver before. Has anyone? By him or by any Navajo silver ma...

Removing blotchiness on sterling surface that will not polish out

I usually have no trouble polishing badly tarnished silver using a good quality non-abrasive polish. But occasionally I get a piece of sterling with some type of blotchiness on the surface that will not polish out. It is not a coating of anything. I have never been able to find out what causes that ...

It appears that the faint Eagle stamp has a "1" inside, which would mean from a maker in Mexico City. The Eagle stamp was used from 1948 to 1979.

info on LUTZ sterling, USA ???

I picked up this 3" LUTZ hand made sterling box today, and I cannot find anything about this presumably-American silversmith anywhere in my usual sources. It's not especially rare, as there are a couple pieces from the maker on eBay right now (including one just like mine). Does anyone know any...

When I expand those letters, the word appears to possibly be CORONADO.
But I cannot find it online.

Re: Unfamiliar mark with Antonio Piñeda Crown Mark

Antonio Taxco (inside a crown). Used in conjunction with other markings since ca, 1953, in this case with Molina (C. Molina). Don’t know what the “P” is about. "Molina" and "C.Molina" apparently refer to the same company. That’s from The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Ha...

Yes, most likely. First half 20th C. and often unmarked.

Re: Chinese goblet

As I've mentioned before here, the silver purity of most of the good quality Chinese export silver made from late 19th to early 20th C. was 90%, as it was made from melted down Mexican and South American silver dollars. It was a silver source they could depend on. Many of these pieces have "90&...

Re: Is this sugar tongs Chinese Silver?

As for the silver purity, almost all Chinese export silver made from late 19th to early 20th C. was made from melted down Mexican and South American silver dollars, thus was 90% silver. It was a silver source they could depend on. Many of these pieces have "90" stamped on them.

Re: Thai coffee pot with maker/retail mark?

For now, I think I will say Chinese export silver (late 19th-early 20th C), with a Southeast Asian look in the figures. Chinese export silver was often marked with one or more Chinese characters, plus double-letter English initials. But I cannot find who "BH" might be. Maybe Adrien von Fer...

Re: Thai coffee pot with maker/retail mark?

Very unusual. Yes, the designs (the human figures anyway, even though they are not formal Thai deities) could be Thai, with Chinese influence in the foliage, as you suggest. But the unusual markings make me wonder if it might perhaps be Cambodian (or even something else), since English writing/initi...

Re: Silver Box unknown hall marks

Hi, Definitely made in Thailand, with the Ramakien (Ramayana) figure in the center, likely mid 20th century. The mark is unusual, probably a maker's mark, nothing about the silver content. Genuine Thai silver is usually marked .925 or Sterling, or the Thai-language equivalent. Fake Thai silver is of...

Re: Dragon Ring?? Please Translate! Thank You!

Hi,
If the characters in the second and third pics were turned right side up, then the double character on the right is the jungin mark which means silver. Could be Chinese or (more likely, I think) Japanese.
I cannot read the other characters.

Re: Persian? Indian? Turkey? where could it be from

Hi,
It was made in Thailand.
The 100% refers to the purity of the silver content (but do not trust that without doing your own testing).
The 15 บ is the abbreviation for 15 baht-weight, which is approximately 7.5 ounces.
Nice bowl !
