Allison Studio - Vera Allison?

I have just acquired an older sterling silver bar pin or brooch in an Arts & Crafts style. It has a c-clasp without a safety catch, which is one reason I think it's fairly old. It is signed with a mark that appears to be "Allison Studio," although the A is quite faint. I couldn't find anything about ...

Re: Antique open salt, hard to read marks - French?

Thanks! The people on this forum are truly awesome! I really appreciate it. I looked at the page, and didn't see it at first, but now I do see the one that's very similar. The description of their work and the other examples do sound like this piece too. Mystery solved!

Antique open salt, hard to read marks - French?

These marks are on an ornate little open salt, shaped a bit like a boat on a pedestal. The marks are under the "prow." The chased decoration on it includes fruit and a leafy horned face, like a green man. I can link to more images, but the title of this forum says single image, so I won't for now ...

Re: Is this an Augsburg mark? Ever heard of Bihler?

Your knive is marked for the year 1825/26 (pineapple+L), makers mark is to read I H M and not W H I, that means Johann Daniel Halbmaier, born in 1763, died in 1826.Probably he was not "Meister", in ev. registry of dead people he is marked as"Goldschmiedegeselle". Very nice piece of work!

Thanks ...

Re: Is this an Augsburg mark? Ever heard of Bihler?

I did what I could with a Google search to research Johann Jakob Gottfried Biller (or Bühler), and I'm somewhat uncertain. The maker's mark on these spoons is actually spelled "Bihler," although I don't know how clear that is in the photos. Is this a known mark for Biller?

There's another site ...

Is this an Augsburg mark? Ever heard of Bihler?

I acquired some mostly 800 or so silver spoons recently, mostly from Germany. I have some marks I can't identify. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they're from Augsburg. Has anyone ever heard of Bihler?

Wow! Thank you! That's very good to know. Thanks for the additional information, also. I couldn't quite believe what I thought I was seeing, because I rarely see anything this old.

Re: British silver buckles from 18th century? William Hall?

Hi Trev. Thanks for fixing the image size. I was not able to figure out how to do it, as the number of pixels did match what it said was required (1000 pixels).

To clarify, I did not delete images after I got an answer in my previous posts. I stopped paying for hosting for a web site that I no ...

British silver buckles from 18th century? William Hall?

I have these 2 silver buckles, which appear to be very old and British. I think they may be shoe buckles. I have researched the marks as best I could, and so far, I think they're British silver, made in London in the late 18th century, possibly by William Hall. I'm a novice at identifying such ...

Re: English silver or silver plate tea or coffee pot

Thanks so much, Trev. I can't make out the CSG & Co. part at all, but it's probably just my old eyes. I'll try looking at it with the light at some other angle. Thanks again for helping to identify this piece.

Toast rack or some sort of grill?

Hello,

I'm trying to identify a strange silver or silver plated object. I thought maybe it was either a very unusual toast rack, or else a sort of rack or grill that fits inside something else, to let meat or some other food drain. It has no hallmarks, which makes me think it originally came with ...

English silver or silver plate tea or coffee pot

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I came to the site to try to identify hallmarks on a piece of old English silver or silver plate, which came from a late relative. I have already looked at the information on the site about British silver hallmarks, however, the hallmarks on this tea or coffee pot that ...
