This is fascinating obituary information, as I happen to have a Benedict cup/bell that has THE DRUM engraved on it. Perhaps it was a giveaway at the surprise banquet for the Drum Corps?

Ah, after further looking through this site, it looks like it is one of the "unidentifiable" marks listed in the American section.
It's disappointing that there is no information about it. Maybe my post's pictures will help illuminate the origin?
