Re: Marrow Spoon, prob. Vienna, 1800 - Silversmith mark ?

Dear Krisztián, Thanks a lot for the information provided ! Regarding the hallmark : I suppose that, on the full mark, we should have on the left side of the coat of arms a "1" above another one "1" (that cannot be seen on this spoon), is that correct ? Regarding the ATF mark : I...

Marrow Spoon, prob. Vienna, 1800 - Silversmith mark ?

Hi all, I would like to know more about this marrow spoon in silver, that I believe was made in Vienna in 1800. https://i.postimg.cc/Btsp4bR2/Spoon-Vienna-IMG-4675.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Jtk8V6Vs/Vienna-1800-IMG-4677.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/KRfsdBzK/Marks-Vienna-and-silverm-IMG-4676.jpg Marks on ...

Re: French small box 19th?

Hi Jaume, A bad news and a good news. Bad news : I could not find such a mark in : Arminjon and alii, Dictionnaire des poinçons de fabricants d'ouvrages d'or et d'argent de Paris et de la Seine : 1838-1875 , Imprimerie nationale, 1994, ...but good news : I could find it in in the previous book writt...

Re: French small box 19th?

Hi Jaume, Nice box, probably made in the 2nd part of the 19th century. Regarding the first mark : I guess you are right, a Mercury head, looking to the left. This mark, with some variations (i-e : mark in an octogon, in an oval...) is a 19th-French export mark, for items sold to foreign countries an...

Re: French Scent Bottle Silver Cap Hallmark Help

To be honest, I cannot really read the mark below the fineness mark (Boars head). Nevertheless, a suggestion since the mark is quite small and especially if you did not bought this item in France : would it be a French export mark ("tête de Mercure") (see here for example https://www.silve...

Re: 18th century French silver?

As JayT mentionned, we do not see any discharge mark on the pictures published (note that discharge marks are generally quite small marks, basically 1/4 to 1/2 the size of hallmark). If confirmed, this lake of discharge may suggest that it is not a Parisian production, but more probably a production...

Re: Spanish mark 18e century - Probably Barcelona

Thanks Funkel for the refence book you mentionned. If my understanding is correct, this book covers silver production of the Ciudad Real province, which does not include Barcelona. I presume that you nevertheless indicate this latter book because it includes an updated bibliography (as of 2021) rela...

Re: Spanish mark 18e century - Probably Barcelona

Hi Jaume, Thanks for your additionnal comment. A Spanish scholar that I contacted wrote me that it was indeed from Barcelona, probably around 1760-80. He did not write anything about Francesco Carrutxo's mark, so your information is precious. Could you please tell us was is your source for this info...

Thanks Trev. fr the "technical" update, I hope it will do better next time I try insert a pic !

Thanks Peter for your information. The mark I read was not so clean and a bit worn, so I may have misread it.

I also realize that this post could be more consistent in the "Dutch Silver" part of the forum.

The Netherlands or Belgium 1815-1830 - Unidentified silver mark

Hi all, I saw some weeks ago in a flea market in the South of France a silver sprinkling spoon ("cuiller à saupoudrer") that I could not photograph, sorry. According to one of the mark I already knew : a fist holding a stick with the letter O or G ? (not sure of the letter, because the mar...

Re: French maker mark help please

According to the general look of the marks, I would be surprised if this was actually a French product. I may be wrong, but on the third mark (from left to right), the symbol looks like a hammer and sickle in a star : could have it be produced in a former communist country between 1917 and 90ies, li...

Re: Are these French Minerva mark?

According to the shape of the marks, an oval, it is almost sure that it is not the French Minerva hallmark.

Oel's suggestion seems indeed a consistent one.

Re: Scientific analysis of silver in order to know origin of the metal ?

Thanks for your comments AG2012. Indeed, it seems that some scientific tests are realized on archeological objects, and sometimes on objects from the Middle-Age, but not on more recent objects. I do not know if such cientific tests are not realized on objects from Renaissance, 17e, 18th centuries......

Scientific analysis of silver in order to know origin of the metal ?

Hi, Hope this part of the forum is the most appropriate one for such a question. I am not an engineer or a scientific, but I wonder if, as of today, there is some non-destructive technics (spectography maybe) to determine the origin of silver used by a silversmith in order to make its work ? For exa...
