That is a Birmingham hallmark with the date letter "v" for 1895 (note that it is frequently mistaken for other letters). I think that the piece is a box or purse mount with the vertical hole possibly being a keyhole. Phil Thank you Phil for the information I wasn’t certain of the date let...

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Charles Penny Brown, Birmingham, made leather goods (e.g. purses, wallets). I suppose the item you found is a clasp that was riveted to leather (three holes).
