Re: Maker's Mark on Salver
Any guesses on dating it then? Thanks.dognose wrote:Hi,
It was not uncommon for well-known makers to strike a single mark only, especially on early pieces.
The 1892 date is not the date of the item's manufacture, but the date of the advertisement. Your item, I suspect, would be somewhat earlier.

Maker's Mark on Salver
Hi All,
Hoping someone can help me identify the maker's mark on this salver. The last photo shows the only mark I could find on the entire piece.
TIA

Re: Pairpoint rifles & dog stand - object identification
Took a tour. Pairpoint matchsafe with hunter & dog in design. Hunting dogs also show up on cigar cases/humidors. Now, Pairpoint frames often are missing glass pieces, but some bowls survive which rest at that upper ring, and some have cigar size rests molded in. So, tobacciana is looking good ...

Thanks Traintime and AG2012. Your responses seem logical - I was also thinking some type of pen or tobacciana stand. Would love to figure this out for sure though.

Pairpoint rifles & dog stand - object identification
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out what this silver plate object is by the Pairpoint company. It has a small well in the middle, similar to pen/quill holders, but I'm not sure that's what it is. Maybe tobacciana? Any ideas?
TIA,
Biju

"HG" Maker's Mark on Carving Utensil
Hi All,
I can't seem to find this Sheffield silver maker ("HG" in second image) that would match the "m" date mark (I'm assuming 1904 date rather than 1794?). Would appreciate any help identifying.
TIA,

Re: Augsburg vases(?) - 17th century?
1.Both ``Augsburg acorn mark`` and what`s supposed to be maker's mark have nothing in common with well documented Augsburg marks.
2.Marks are always an integral part of the object (i.e.in harmony with the style, period and craftsmanship). The fact definitively not observed in this case.

Hi,
Small vases and definitively not 17th century Augsburg, but late 19th or early 20th century.
Almost 100% Hanau pseudo marks.

Thanks to both you and Bahner so much for lending your expertise. For my own development on this subject matter, can you both please elaborate on how you made ...

Augsburg vases(?) - 17th century?
Hey Everyone,
Any thoughts on whether this matched pair of "vases" (are they vases?) are 17th century Augsburg, and what is the second mark?
Thanks so much,
Biju

Whiting Mfg. Sterling Jug info needed
Hi Everyone,
Is anyone able to identify what this holloware object is (beyond my describing it as a "jug"), recognize the pattern and estimate a date of production? There are no date marks, so according to this page, it should be between 1866 and 1904: https://www.925-1000.com/Whiting_Date_Code ...

Thank you Sasropakis for the info.Sasropakis wrote:Looks like Hanau pseudo hallmarks used by Wolf & Knell: https://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_hanau_marks_01.html
Date is thus late 19th or early 20th century and the style is someting like neo-rococo.

Re: 19C Swedish Bowl identification
I guess the OP was referring to the topic page where an example of the hexagon mark was shown and wanted to know when is was used and should the item have it. I couldn't find any info about the years but as I suspected it was a much later addition. Do you know why it was used? The only info I could ...
