Soviet era silver cigarette box, hammer qnd sickle
I have recently obtained this lovely box and am trying to identify the maker. The inscription is from 1929, obviously the work could have been done earlier but iconographically I believe that the inscription date is the proper time period. The only similar mark I could find was Alexsei Stepanov but ...

Re: Need mark identification
Interesting that they were out of business for twenty five years before this bowl was engraved. But stuff happens. I have looked for similar Ruser marks and can't find them so I think that date notwithstanding you are probably correct.

Re: Need mark identification
That is interesting. I was told that it was the hallmark of William Ruser, the Los Angeles jeweler and silversmith but was not absolutely sure. Thank you, glad I checked.

Need mark identification
https://i.postimg.cc/GmSyQ0s2/gcp123wr-1-of-1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/nLjQSdv1/ssb1-1-of-1.jpg Lovely sterling silver bowl that was a gift for a rabbi in 1968. Anyone recognize the mark? The rabbi seems to have gotten around so not a lot of clues there: Prior to serving as rabbi at Hazleton, Pa., ...

Re: need help identifying icon maker
Hope this is better. The cyrillic character on the left part of the maker's mark is still a bit obscured on the bottom but the point on the top looks idiosyncratic and might help you sleuths. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Silver lid on Danish ceramic base
Hope this is better. Can't imagine them putting an early mark on it either, the pottery company is actually quite old. Thanks for your help.

Silver lid on Danish ceramic base
This gun metal ceramic form was made by the pottery of the danish Jens Michael Andersen (1859-1931) Stylistically I thought the 800 silver top would be Georg Jensen but oddly I think it is instead a german maker. Can anyone identify this mark for me? Thank you. https://i.postimg.cc/bv1RPf4n/mik1-1-o...

Re: Gorham question
Okay, I stand corrected. It didn't look like acid etching to me but maybe it is. Certainly not a true bright cut. I used to write an occasional article for Silver Magazine but that was several decades ago. Lot I don't know. Thanks for your help.

Re: Gorham question
I had the same questions about the relief work and that also made me question the total production numbers. If it was widely produced were the pieces and decorations identical? If so it would have to have utilized other methods of engraving. I don't think it is acid etching. The line work looks simi...
