Re: Help identify Chinese Export marks on cup

Hello there,

Just very vaguely I could read '鳳祥' (Feng Xiang), which is a well-known silver retailer based in Shanghai since late 19th C.

Hope that helps.

Stamps on platinum clasp tongue

Hello guys,

Image

I have a 1920s Art Deco diamond-set platinum clasp with these stamps on the tongue.
They don't seem to be hallmarks but would like to give it a try here, I appreciate any of your thoughts.

Many thanks,
Connor

Re: Japanese Letters Sake Cup Inscription & Jungin Mark

Hi,

The Jungin mark on your cup is written from left to right, the Japanese adapted this writing style approx. after WWII.

Hope that helps.

Re: Help identifyJapanese Maker's

Hello there,

the stamp reads 'Kan' (warship), couldn't manage to find out the exact maker, however there are some other examples (mainly souvenir spoons) from Nagasaki that use the Russian 84 zolotnik as a fineness standard.

Re: OH - ON HING - Silver Bowl

That was our initial thought as well. However, do you think different spellings are usually phonetically similar, so just different ways of writing the original Chinese phonemes. In this case, it may not be close enough to attribute this to Onn Sing. But there’s always the chance it could be ...

Hello Connor!
Many thanks for your reply but I have a new question.
I found on the Internet that maker Guang Ji worked in Hong Kong and Lain Chang was known in Shanghai. Could this really happen?
Regards/ Alex.

Re: Chinese cigarette case

The characters on the front is a phonetically translated name, which sounds like "Mary Jane Nicoli / Niccoli"
maker's mark Lain Chang (active in Shanghai c. 1900)
artisan mark 廣記 GuangJi

Hope that helps,

Re: Silver Teaspoons - Chinese Maker?

Hello there,

There's a mark of 廣記 (Mandarin: Guang Ji / Cantonese: Kwong Kee), Hong Kong circa 1890-1920
and a partial artisan mark next to it.

The pierced characters on the finials are 如意 (ruyi) in seal script, which roughly means 'as desired'.

Hope that helps,

Re: Is this box from 1595?

Hi Guido,

I agree with the others in this thread.

From my experience, a lot of "one of the kind" antique pieces are quite often Frankensteins, different bits have been put together to forge and imitate as an older and unique piece, hence it is important to ask for details. If the vendor refuses to ...

Re: Need Help Identifying Chinese Export Hallmark

Hello there,

The mark resembles 'SF', which stands for 'SING FAT' (Canton and Shanghai c. 1880-1940)
and then there's a 'fineness' mark '90',
lastly the artisan mark '鴻祥', which could be pronounced as 'Hung Cheong' or 'Hong Xiang'

Re: silver chain makers mark

Hi there,

The bird head is a Portuguese mark for 835 silver, used between 1985-2020, the canted corner frame indicates it being struck in Porto Assay Office. Not sure about the maker.

Hope that helps,
Connor
