Hi
Have you considered the well known and well established Australian jewelry firm of Angus & Coote (A&C)? Formed in 1895, still going to this day, well known especially for their wedding and engagement rings.
The above statement is not with any guarantee, but it was my first reaction on seeing ...

I'm in agreement with Steve here. A combination of lyre bird feathers and opals, plus the hallmarking, makes me think it is more likely than not that this piece is Australian.

Re: Birmingham hallmark, but reversed Victoria duty stamp
Hi Jazzman111 - if it were a Birmingham piece, you would expect - in addition to the anchor - a date letter and the lion passant. Given that the date letter letter, the anchor and the lion passant were applied together by the Assay Office, the lack of a complete set is telling.

Re: H.M.S Rochester
The 1930's dating relates to the 4th ship of the Royal Navy with that designation. Some information, for the sake of completeness (credit to Wikipedia but the information has been abbreviated):
[i]MS Rochester (L50) was a Shoreham-class sloop of the Royal Navy. She served during the Second World ...

Somewhat of a coincidence, but this query was answered on another topic very recently.....in short, one of International Silver's many plate marks.

1902 for me - the top of the "c" is the key for me.

Re: Is this Reed & Barton with the 1935 "x" mark?
Yes, I'm in agreement with Cheryl here. If a piece could be stamped "Sterling", "925" etc it would be by the maker, in order to confirm/reinforce the quality and value - the lack of such a sterling silver or silver content mark usually means that it isn't sterling silver or doesn't have appreciable ...

Hi Mark
I agree with that the mark appears Brazilian, and your dating appears accurate.
Can't add any more - no other marks?

Re: Origin and age of decanter
Further post - some more digging has suggested there is also a Sheffield UK mob called Whitehill (or Whitehill Silver & Plate Co) currently making silver plate pieces. Not sure of any connection to the Australian company of the similar name - but if the piece is English, then it is definitively ...

Gday Blacktooth
There is Whitehill Silver Plate Co - an Australian company dealing in silver plate (kind of obvious I know). Good link to a previous Forum post on Whitehill - http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=39168&p=107890&hilit=whitehill#p107890. The "F" in your picture may be a ...

Re: Small dish/bowl I inherited from my Gram
Maker is probably S M Levi Ltd (http://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/Make ... SN.html#SM). That particular iteration of the maker was used 1932-1939, which is consistent with the date letter (being 1936 in my view).

Re: Russian Sterling Teapot
Thanks all - appreciate your input AG2012, Qrt.S, Goldstein and Dad. I had my suspicions about the marks - the teapot was a gift and the Russian attribution was based on what the giver of the present was told by the dealer. I figured a quick post here would give me a conclusive answer - and it has ...

Russian Sterling Teapot
This wonderful teapot is one of the main pieces in my collection. I really like the styling (Art Deco I believe). Now, I *think* it is Russian, but am happy to bow to the knowledge of the Russian specialists! I'd appreciate any information (maker, assay office etc). The silver mark looks like that ...

Re: Antique Spanish silver box. Cordoba?
I'm sure everyone else has noticed already, but there is a period of some years between the date range for manufacture/assay and the date of the Peninsular War (when the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards were part of Wellington's forces). A quick Google reveals that a "George Hickman" was the Assistant ...
