A Whiting question
I have 2 tablespoons (8 1/2") in Whiting's Lily pattern. I 'm giving them to my granddaughter and I'd like to fully explain all the marks. They are marked with the Whiting Lion holding the W in a shield, and are marked "Pat. 1902", (which I understand). They are also marked "R'D ...

Re: Assist on sterling mark - unlettered Wallace stag?
It has some similarity to H. H. Curtis, and also to part of an early Frank M. Whiting mark. Good Luck.

knife blades
Can anyone tell me when Sterling Manufacturers in the US stopped using silverplated blades? I'm getting some conflicting information. Some sources say it was in the 1920's, others say after WWII.

I believe this is the mark of Watrous Mfg. Co. of Wallingford, CT. They were one of the companies which became part of International Silver in the late 1800s.

Knife Blade Styles
Hi: My question is about Knife Blades. I recently purchased a Mother of Pearl Handle knife with a sterling ferrule. The blade is a Blunt Blade style, and I think it is silver plated. This is my question: On one side of the top of the blade there is a bevel edge starting about 1 1/2 inches from the f...

Hello All: Thanks for all the response, I've been on vacation for a few weeks and am now back to my silver! I agree with the 1918 date, that was my original thought. Since this is my first venture into the forum, I am wondering why you moved my post to the silverplate area. I thought the Lion mark i...

Sheffield Spoon Mark
Hi: I'm new to the forum and hope you can answer a question. I have a 5 1/4" ladle shaped spoon which I believe to be a sifter. The dealer called it a drain spoon. It has a shell shaped bowl with 37 holes. The marks are Crown/Lion/a followed by JR which is identical to the Joseph Rodgers mark. ...
