MAYBE Mexican mark, but which one?

Hello again! Another find from this afternoons auction - a set of small 5" diameter plates with only the mark shown below. I found an auction on eBay for a brooch/pin with the same mark, and that seller is thinking Mexican too, but ?? I can't tell if that's a "900" or a "gou"...

Sterling Silver Large Box - Cigar Box Maybe

Hello! I have an interesting box lined in thin balsa type wood, marked "Sterling Silver 925" and with a mark I am unfamiliar with. It's very difficult to read the letter in the top arch of the mark, but below there are 3 stars and some sort of figure/item in the center. Any clues for me? E...

Fratelli Coppini pieces

Fratelli Coppini of Italy I see from the encyclopedia here that the mark on these two pieces was used from 1872-1933. My question is more what I would call the style of these pieces? http://i45.tinypic.com/mr2udu.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/svki1s.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/9j184g.jpg Thanks for any ...

5 o'clock Spoon Set Demitasse, sterling & enamel maker i

Hi folks! I bought a set of demitasse or "Five O'Clock" spoons at a local sale and am wondering about their origin. They have a pretty enameled art nouveau design on the handle, and are marked with the mark you see in the pic plus STERLING 925 SØLV The mark looks like a scrolled "S&q...

Silverplated Mark - Candelabra "LW"

Hi you all! I found a set of two of these Candelabra - tarnished and polished up like silverplate (black tarnish) and the only mark is "LW" on the side of the base. The bottom inserted stabilizer pieces are marked "Metall" - but I wonder about the tops. Any ideas most welcome! Th...

Bahner, thank you so much. So it would probably be 800 silver? I've gone over every millimeter of this piece with a loupe and find no additional markings.

Thanks -

Thank you! I notice that my topic was changed to the "German Silver" thread, so I went through all the German marks on this site and don't see it...I thought I had just missed it the first time. So was the topic switched because the shape/design of the piece looks similar to some German pi...

Unknown marks on Pierced Shell Spoon(?) Ornate Fish Handle

Hi, hoping you all can help me solve a mystery. This piece measures 5.125" long, and the bowl of the spoon is 2.3" wide. There are two stamped marks in the curve of the bowl, towards the end. I have no clue if this is American or European, what metal it is, or even what the heck a pierced ...

Info on "Strube & Sohn" piece

Hello! I'm hoping someone can tell me a little about the company that marked this piece - "Strube & Sohn". It also has the half moon and crown mark, and "800". I haven't been able to find out whether they were silversmiths or jewelers - I've seen the name referencing both typ...

Hi JakJo! I thought I'd put this info in but apparently not. I'd previously found out that it was made by Johann Friedrich August Noack (Hamburg, Master Silversmith, 1816) but don't know which assayer the "C" in the Hamburg castle mark denotes - I'm thinking that if I can find this info, I...

German Wedding Bowl, with Silver Stand - date of marks??

Hi there! I'm hoping that the fellows familiar with old German hallmarks can give me a hand with this piece. It's an old Czech Wedding Bowl in stained cut glass, with a silver stand. The marks on the stand say "NOACK" and have the 3-Castle mark used in the city of Hamburg. There's a "...

Makers mark on Alpacca Dessert Cups

Hi! I have a set of 6 of these little 3" x 2.5" tall dessert or sherbets. Thanks to this forum, I know that "Alpacca" means that special alloy of zinc, copper and nickel - but also that LOTS of different companies the world over made this type of metal. Does anyone recognize the ...
